“Building the foundations of national renewal on a deep respect for the contribution each person can make sat at the heart of the PM’s speech – and is what we’ve helped set out in Ordinary Hope”. @mds49 for @realbritainros on ’ordinary hope’ with @jrf_uk. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

“To give no trust is to get no trust” 💡💡💡💡💡💡💡 Want to know how the Taiwanese government drew on ancient wisdom to increase trust levels from below 10% in 2015 to nearly 70% this year? TLDR: they chose actively to trust - and therefore INVOLVE - the Taiwanese people. 🧵

We're Right Here: the campaign for community power
We’re so pleased to see the Government include our ask of a Community Right to Buy in their new English Devolution Bill. This could be genuinely transformative. We’re looking forward to working with the Government and MPs to make sure this genuinely empowers local people who want more control over the things that matter to them.

Big day for communities. Big day for community business. Community Right to Buy announced in King's Speech. And door open to further powers to the neighbourhood level. Thanks to campaigning from lots of us and championing by political allies. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6697ac9c…

Quick off the blocks analysis by @Moreincommon_ @UCLPolicyLab of the U.K. General Election shows the public have clear priorities for change - NHS, cost of living, immigration. Delivery really matters but needs to be matched with politics and story of respect

“As the report shows, the new government will need both delivery and connection in order to succeed”. Our Director @mds49 joins @lewis_goodall @LukeTryl @claire_ainsley and @greenmiranda on the panel.

Lisa Nandy to DCMS staff: “For too long, for too many people, the story we tell ourselves, about ourselves as a nation has not reflected them, their communities or their lives. This is how polarisation, division and isolation thrives. In recent years we’ve found multiple ways to divide ourselves from one another. And lost that sense of a self-confident, outward looking country which values its own people in every part of the UK. Changing that is the mission of this department. *The era of culture wars is over.*”

3. Help people connect. Far too many people feel sad, lonely and isolated. That is just as much a driver of distrust and support for populists as economic discontent. It's time to take connection more seriously as a policy priority (see @togethercoalit for ideas).

2. Hanging Baskets 2.0 Do things that people can see + feel in their lives. Find out what these are by talking to them (see 1). There was a strand of 'levelling up' that understood this (but failed to execute). It needs to run throughout the growth plan. politico.eu/article/boris-…

It will take a lot to get beyond 'deliverism'. But it's absolutely essential to do so – not just to defeat populists, but to achieve the government's mission of national renewal. Here are three ideas for starters... 🧵 thetimes.com/article/b08296…

@robertshrimsley What would 'lived delivery' mean in practice for Muslim communities in the UK? The only way to find out would be to do politics differently – politicians connecting with local leaders and building programmes together. See @right_hereUK

@williamdbrett You are wrong. Delivery is everything but it has to be lived delivery. People need to feel it in their lives

This thread feels important. Gaza was the tip of the spear for Muslim voters deserting Labour but as always the root cause is non-delivery and feeling taken for granted
Luke Tryl@LukeTryl

🧵Having conducted lots of focus groups with Muslim voters this year, I would be cautious about attributing the shift away from Labour to Gaza alone. I think a good comparison is Brexit acting as a trigger for Red Wall voters leaving Labour rather than sole cause.
