@bigsnugga There are countless examples of old and disabled people surviving in hostile environments in prehistoric times, despite the immense cost. It turns out that for 99% of human history, seeing someone suffering was a worse pain than you missing out on some stuff.

@bigsnugga There’s quite a famous quote about how the first sign of civilisation is a healed femur and it’s true. The rightoid will think “NUH UH IT’S EPIC FLAGS AND BIG ARMIES” not realising they only existed because people cared for their neighbours even when it meant a personal loss.

@kickingmustang @pokedstudiouk @MerrynSW Then obviously we have to differentiate the difference between land rent and the property rent, which is where the drawback of LTV comes in.

@kickingmustang @pokedstudiouk @MerrynSW So, just to confirm my understanding of LVT is correct: If the owner of unimproved land build something and rented that out, that rent wouldn’t be taxed? Thus the only value of the land is in improvement potential, not in the actual holding of the land itself.

Mansion tax. You have a £2m house. You add a £10k annual liability to it. Now it is no longer worth £2m. So not liable for the mansion tax. How does this work?

It's amazing how much leftist discourse I, a right-wing moron, genuinely do not understand, thus making discourse impossible.

@bigsnugga “Alienation from labour makes people sad” “Profit accumulation means there is less money going back into the system” “A job is more than just a job and has social impacts” Like yeah, most people who’ve worked a job could tell you this. Marx’s conclusion wasn’t that ridiculous.

@bigsnugga Even if you got rid of all of Marxs’ writing, completely rewrote history to get rid of any mention of communism, someone else would come up with the idea. A lot of his philosophy is observation. The conclusion he draws from his philosophy is not a huge stretch.

@matt__okc @LeBolshevikman This is why the West is in decline. ca. Reagen/Thatcher, the balance the West struck between collectivism and individualism was was binned off in favour of individualism. Now you have people refusing to limit their AC usage so the grid keeps working.

@matt__okc @LeBolshevikman There’s a reason very few high profile leftist spies were paid. There’s a reason almost all high profile rightist spies were paid. Individualism is at odds with doing something for a cause. “Why should _I_ risk my own position to do something that is an expected loss?”

@Jwf1776 @CursedDC @varrock 1) China are a few months behind 2) data centres are (again, I’ve said this 3+ times now…) not the only thing that matters. 3) China’s STEM graduates outnumber US STEM graduates + migrants moving from elsewhere. They are building the top talent domestically.

American making $400k/yr: “If I grind for 30 years and make enough money I can retire and spend my afternoons sipping espressos on the mediterranean” French guy living on $23k/yr and benefits: “I should get some coffee this afternoon. Maybe I’ll walk around on the beach.”

@Jwf1776 @CursedDC @varrock I doubt this very much. China has too much momentum and is, increasingly, out-manoeuvring the US in design. Look at the Huawei’s tau scaling law research, for instance. They’re now spending more on research and their research is more dynamic.

@remarks What is the YoY increase? Surely almost every year ever outside of historical crashes rent prices have hit new all time highs. I’m assuming they also hit new all time highs in most republican other cities too…
