⚡️So, a month in now,
with ‘Buddy the Bin’ -this not-really-a-car ⚡️car.
And, I know it is a bit of a joke to some. 🐌
It’ll only do ~47 miles to a charge.
It only has a ~5.5kWh (useable) battery.
It only has a (limited) top speed of 28mph.
No airbags, no power steering, no radio, no frills.
(I’ve added a CarPlay screen with front and rear dash cam and a Bluetooth speaker.)
You can’t even turn the lights off or flash them.
However, get this:
Those 47 miles only cost <30 pence.
I’ll repeat that: that’s right-THIRTY PENCE. About 40 Cents US.
To put that in perspective: a single gallon of petrol costs about £6.92 right now.
For that same £6.92, I can charge this Ami 25 times on my overnight tariff.
That's over 1,200 miles of driving for the price of one gallon of fuel.
Yes, that’s 1200 miles per gallon!
Charging from the solar, is free even.
Sure it’s not a vehicle you’re gonna take on the motorway (you can’t) or one you’ll likely do trips over 40 miles in, unless you have a lot of time and can stop to charge for a couple of hours every 40 miles or so.
Day to day, for most of my needs, this easily can do it.
“But it’s tOo SlOw!”
Well it isn’t tbh.
Most of the time it’s not at top speed. In the traffic and around town it’s not hitting v-max much.
The seats are firm and basic but not too bad. Loads of room inside for the two people. Legroom and headroom is ample.
Decent amount of storage behind the seats and in front of the passenger seat.
Suspension is there, somewhere. You definitely feel any big bumps.
Great visibility as the screen and panoramic-roof are big.
It’s surprisingly practical and fun. It gets stares and smiles wherever it goes.
Whenever you park up in it or return to it, there’s always people looking and wanting to ask about it.
Vive l’Ami!

I have a better idea.
Let’s introduce a mandatory euthanasia for over-70s.
They’ve had a good run. The health span is likely down the road from 70 onwards. NHS spend on geriatric illnesses is astronomic. All comes out of the “young people’s” pockets.
Let’s just clear the dead weight off society.
70 years is good enough.

For every £1 boomers pay in tax, they will receive £1.20 in benefits. The state pension should be scrapped. No ifs, no buts, scrapped.

@PeterStefanovi2 If starmer had any balls he would instruct him not to go…but he hasnt.

Why are people saying it's expensive to insure a Tesla?
I insure a Cybertruck and a Model Y. Two drivers, full coverage with towing and rental for just over $200 a month. People are always shocked when I tell them that. They expected it to be way more.
The insurance cost is one of the biggest myths holding people back from buying a Tesla.
How much do you pay to insure yours?

@TrisOsborneMP Inflation rising. Unemployment rising. Fuel rising. Electricty and gas rising. And useless government ministers sitting on their arses doing nothing.

I’m glad more people on my TL are finally calling out boomer entitlement. The old “just cancel Netflix and save like we did” argument ignores the reality we face today. Housing costs have outpaced wages by multiples, student debt is at record highs, and real wage growth for young people has stagnated for decades. In the 1970s, the average home was ~3x annual income, now it’s often 8–10x+. Tuition for uni used to be free; now it leaves people in debt for decades. It’s no longer about lattes or subscriptions in an economic system that no longer offers the same baseline opportunities, yet the young today still gets judged by outdated standards.

@ChrisMartzWX Could do but the imbalance of the airframe having weight at the rear would result in the aircraft tipping backwards and the pilot spilling his coffee.
English

@peterkyle Correct. The beginning of a disastrous policy which will increase unemployment.
English

@shaguncrypto Why not worry about your own income instead if this constant criticism of the older generation?

@rosie_eats Its nans pension, she paid into it and worked hard for it, and deserves every penny.

@DrMoragKerr @iamjasondexter @colinwalker79 Both really, and also the poor charging infrastructure in the Uk, not to mention the stupid price of electricity🤷
English

@willoindevon @iamjasondexter @colinwalker79 Take a test drive and judge the ride for yourself. As regards the battery, are you concerned about realistic range, or the lifespan of the battery?
English

@iamjasondexter @colinwalker79 And the battery. How long will it actually give?
English

@iamjasondexter @colinwalker79 Yes I am considering one of those but all the reviews state its a harsh ride?
English

@Nyplodder @colinwalker79 Its the 2nd battery thing that bothers me.
English

@willoindevon @colinwalker79 I bought a £18k one, 500miles on clock, hasn't missed a beat 32k miles later

@willoindevon @colinwalker79 Educate yourself, don't rely on the Daily Mail
