@_Ayu5h Sometimes it’s the amount of dismissive and disrespectful behaviors towards our staff. You can’t really discover these during the discovery calls, but we are definitely creating a list of behaviors to watch out for.

@willowli If you vibe with them on call, i can guarantee you that it's going to turn out great. If they come off as a bit off/snobbish/egoistic/dismissive of what you say/trynna control the whole conversation ... majority of the time it's going to turn out toxic

Running a service-based business can be deeply rewarding — and occasionally, very challenging. Have you ever dealt with a client who moved the goalposts repeatedly, ignored the terms they agreed to, and still blamed you when things didn’t go their way? How did you handle it?

@_Ayu5h Yes, definitely need to watch for the signs. We also came across someone who was conversational pleasant during the discovery call, then turned out to be the opposite!

@_Ayu5h Thanks! I hope it helps with client screening process. We surely are learning to screen clients better each time

Has anyone had a user pay for a plan, use the software, delete their account, and then dispute payment claiming they never received it?! Given how banks handle disputes, they’ll likely issue a refund. Ofc, Stripe still takes the fees, regardless of the outcome. #buildinpublic

Last year I did 12 startups in 12 months. Here are the results. I am sharing this because a lot of people want to do the same or thought of doing this. This might help them see how it may turn out. Total Revenue - $130K+ 8 made some revenue. 2 got acquired. Rest of them failed. (Product that worked are still generating revenue) Do not wait. Just move and launch sh*t. Also, do not get attached to your failed product. If even after trying for so long it's not working. Just shut it down or look to sell it for cheap to reduce your operational costs on it. Also, I haven't updated some of my new products yet in the list. #buildinpublic

🌎 Nomads.com usually ranges in revenue from $30K/mo to $50K/mo per month, now $36K/mo But its costs are almost $0 now (after agressive cost cutting): $80/mo - Mapbox (maps) $26/mo - Postmark (email) $40/mo - Digital Ocean (VPS) $8/mo - OpenAI API (AI moderation) $2/mo - Weather API += $156/mo So (1-156/36,000)*100% = 99.6% profit margin We could get to 99.9% profit if we 1) self-hosted maps, 2) got our weather from US gov data sets, and 3) switched to OAuth for login/signup without emails, but maybe too much work :D
