@secbalbriggan Sarah, while I don't like to see more concrete being poured the works being carried out will improve accessibility for many people in our community. People have been requesting this for a long time.

Rocks dumped on Balbriggan Beach!? Is this a way of destroying the small dunes because apparently there's no erosion on the beach. No mention of the impending works to the wider community.

@biobalbriggan People will use the other beaches and our population is increasing . The 150m harbour piers prevent erosion and are the reason the sandy beach was formed here. Sand continues to be deposited right into the harbour mouth. It is not a natural beach as such unlike Gormanstown.

@willowwinkle The dunes grasses help to protect the front beach from erosion and do not prevent recreational use as evidenced by the beach festival etc. This argument to remove the dune grasses does not stack up imo.

Lots of dune grasses and other dune vegetation have been destroyed by a local group on Balbriggan beach. Awful vandalism and so depressing.

@biobalbriggan @bconin8 Do you have evidence of this Sarah? There were no 'dunes' here 3 years ago. You'd be hard pushed to dig it up

@bconin8 Sprayed with herbicide and dug up. They can do whatever they want it seems.

Little PSA. This 3-wick Firewood candle from @dunnesstores is a tenner, and smells EXACTLY like the Diptyque Feu de Bois candle (which is about a million euro).

@biobalbriggan Unfortunately I have noticed the increased use of other beaches around Balbriggan by people for recreational use and picnics. I know because I clean up after them. One properly maintained public sandy town beach for people would mean the others can be protected for nature.

@willowwinkle I visit the beach a lot with my son and have no issue with it. There is still lots of clear sand for us to play and sit. The dune grasses protect the beach and this must be acknowledged at least.

SF TD Louise O'Reilly publicly supports the campaign to remove dune grasses from Balbriggan Beach in the name of beach amenity restoration. Yes, you read that right. Send Help.

@seafoid19 The poor child! 2 of my kids have hypoplastic teeth, on their adult molars. They form in the gum when they're infants. Never been given a satisfactory cause for them but with careful brushing, fissure sealants and a few fillings they've managed to keep them.
