Hey #RecoveryPosse I just finished “Killing Hurt” by @willthatcherusa & I would definitely recommend it for a fun read. The novel is about a guy named Troy and how he perceives the pain and trauma of his past as the reason for his alcoholism. (Sound familiar?) Troy is also a surfer, which is what hooked me, and goes on a surf trip with some buddies to Central America. He meets a charismatic dude who appears to have his recovery on point, only to be dragged down into a world of Hurt. Troy has to face his past, clean up his side of the street and do some soul searching if he wants to make it back home alive. It also showed me that there are some more things on my own side of the street that I need to take care of to. Again, I highly recommend it. It’s a fun novel with sobriety not only as a theme, but seemingly as one of the main characters too. 🏄‍♂️ killinghurt.net

I need your advice. I recently ended a friendship with someone who I’ve known for a couple of years. He never discussed politics with me — at least, not until a few days ago. That’s when he told me he voted for Trump in the last two elections, and plans to vote for him again in 2024. Was I wrong to cut him off? Frankly, I just can’t imagine hanging out with him now that I know he supports Trump and condones what he stands for.

If I ever make a Netflix show I'm going to make everyone talk REALLY low, so people have to max the volume. Then I'll BLAST the music so they go deaf in their headphones. Just like EVERY other Netflix show.

@MaryBethO_ I think I disagree only because rock bottom looks different for everyone. Mine was fairly civilized in terms of the circumstances - 2 cars in the driveway, couple bucks left in the bank... but I was in enough pain that the foundation was hard enough to build a new life on it.

Rock bottom is a dated concept. Early intervention works just as well and avoids increasing negative consequences. #recovery #sober #recoveryposse #wedorecover #sobercurious

I've heard a lot of good recovery one liners, but this one got me today #RecoveryPosse: "Man, if I only could drink moderately, I'd drink moderately every day!"

My sobriety is progressive - just like my alcoholism was. It unfolds in new ways all the time.

@richsullivan If I could moderate, I would drink moderately all day long.

Moderation is possible for some. Not me. Once I have that first drink, the next one is all I will think about.

@DrDoyleSays Agreed. This is why routines are so important to me. I check in with my morning meditation, with a few phone calls each day and at meetings. These things are etched into my calendar.

Not checking in w/ ourselves is a recipe for sh*t to go south real quick. WHATEVER we're working on in recovery, WHEREVER we ARE in our recovery, we gotta check in. If we only check the gauges when we start sputtering or stalling, we're already in trouble. Think MAINTENANCE.
