“You see the most ludicrous things now on a night-out, people leaving the house having not ironed their jeans” “Oh come on that’s ridiculous you don’t need to iron your jeans for a nigh-” “- you absolutely DO need to iron your jeans if you’re on a night-out”

So long as 'public goods' are just correcting for the absence of private sector investment, it is not a theory of the 'good' but a theory of what the private sector is missing. A framework based on failures of different kinds is, by definition, negative and reactive and will ultimately fail. I'll be at @HowToAcademy on Monday to launch The Common Good Economy—a book about what should replace it. 2 June | 19:00 | St Martin-in-the-Fields, London | Links in replies

Zohran is being a ruthless politician (complimentary). People just aren’t used to electeds on the left acting in this way. To quote a buddy of mine who works in NY politics: “Some in the center act as if the left isn’t allowed to play politics, that being transactional is somehow a betrayal of their values.” If your boss, Andrew Cuomo, had done something like this, no one would have batted an eye. I mean look at what he did with the IDC! He literally orchestrated handing over control of the state Senate to Republicans! But he’s not on the left, and he’s an old school style centrist politician, so he gets a pass for it.

Clearly not a man of his word. Good luck to everyone and anyone @NYCMayor gives it to. His promise clearly is worth as much as a @DennysDiner placemat.

yes @adam_tooze and the manufacturing of silence around the Bank's actions to shrink fiscal space deliberately is astounding: here one alarmist claim that halting gilt sales would trigger inflation!
