🚨Beijing responds sharply to Abu Dhabi during the Crown Prince’s visit to China, after Emirati efforts to strengthen economic cooperation in exchange for Beijing being asked to cut ties with Iran and dismantle its partnership with it.
The Chinese response was decisive: “We decide our own partners ourselves…”
Beijing stressed that its relations with the UAE cannot include any interference in its policy or in its relations with Iran.

@CarmenSze @Byron_Wan That exactly proved she is wise. It’s nothing to do with good or bad, language is for communication. Mandarin is definitely more popular worldwide. Mostly foreigners learn Mandarin rather than Cantonese, right?
English

@Byron_Wan Proof once again that money can buy happiness, but it can’t buy wisdom, knowledge, or virtues. The rich get richer but not wiser! 🤭🤭

A pro-Beijing Malaysian says Hong Kongers should ditch Cantonese… 🤔
Hong Kong should replace Cantonese with Mandarin in schools in order to boost its competitiveness, 🇲🇾 Kuok Hui Kwong (郭惠光) — the chair and group chief executive of the Shangri-La luxury hotel group — said on Apr 14.
Kuok is the daughter of 🇲🇾 Robert Kuok, founder of the hotel group and Malaysia’s richest man.
“We should really revamp our public education system. Our next generation has to be much more connected to China in terms of language and culture … One way to do this could be over time to make Putonghua [Standard Mandarin] the main medium of instruction in schools.”
“Another way could be for Hong Kong to invite some of the best public schools in China to open campuses here, just like we have done for international schools for decades.”
Mandarin is increasingly common in Hong Kong across trading floors and in business contexts as large numbers of mainland Chinese professionals arrive in the territory.
Beijing has pushed for the use of Mandarin in schools across mainland China, including in Guangdong province, the region around Hong Kong, which is primarily Cantonese-speaking.
That has caused tension with locals who feel their identity is under pressure. About 55 million people speak Cantonese across China, including Hong Kong, according to the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
The language is a central part of local culture, with a rich body of classical literature, as well as Hong Kong’s storied film industry.
The Shangri-La group counts mainland China as its largest source of revenue, with an equity interest in 50 hotels out of 82 worldwide. It counted $630M of consolidated revenue from mainland China, out of a total $2B in 2025. The hotel group is listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange but controlled by the Kerry Group, the Kuok family holding company.
Kuok’s comments encapsulate attempts by Hong Kong’s business community to improve relations between the former British territory and mainland China in order to strengthen its role as an offshore hub for the world’s second-largest economy.

@CleansedTweets @chinafutureclub @grok I just can’t imagine what kind of idiots would ask such stupid question, how come a big economy can’t have fresh milk? I can’t believe how ignorant and arrogant these Anglo people are!
English

@chinafutureclub @grok. Is fresh milk widely available in China?

just spent 2 weeks in china. went into it thinking we're cooked. came back more bullish on america than ever. here's why:
1. chinese citizens are way more chronically online. on the subway, train, anywhere, literally everyone is glued to their phone. gaming, short form, wechat. "don't walk and look at your phone, it's dangerous!" announcements flood crowded areas. their tiktok isn't any better, its still garbage, soft-core porn, etc.
2. everyone's using AI — deepseek, kimi, doubao. but nobody's afraid of losing their job to it. here it feels like there's an existential crisis every week. in china, nothing. i think the CCP won't let companies mass-layoff workers. great for short-term stability. terrible for long-term competitiveness on a global scale.
3. china doesn't produce weirdos. i sat in on a class at tsinghua (china's MIT). not one student spoke unless the professor read their name out loud. no questions. no debate. chinese education produces world-class executors, not contrarians. it does make it a safer place to live though.
4. china doesn't have christianity but it has something america doesn't have: a shared story everyone believes in. every person age 25-70 watched their country go from abject poverty to skyscrapers in one lifetime. that kind of collective proof has a deep unifying effect. compare that to how divided we are right now. america has a huge meaning vacuum that needs to be filled.
nevertheless, i return back to my home in america reinvigorated. because everything i saw confirms one thing: china optimizes. america innovates. and the innovators always win.

@UlyssesFinn The people of Xinjiang are the most pitiful ethnic group. Many women are gang-raped in prisons, and many people are murdered, gang-raped, tortured, and even eaten. (Yu Menglong)
