@gulp_yikes An album like NVE, which features Breathing, Violin, Egypt, Wedding List, and Babooshka, cannot, in my opinion, be considered 'pop'. Similarly, the almost tribal use of drums on The Dreaming and the experimentation on that album distance it from a pop music approach.

@gulp_yikes Aside from Hounds of Love, which is undeniably pop, all her other albums lean much closer to rock than pop, imo. This is true in terms of their inspirations, instrumentation, and artistic approach.

I often wonder: if Kate Bush had been a man, would her music still be relegated to the 'art-pop' label? It almost feels like there's an unspoken rule reserving art-pop for women, while art-rock remains the domain of men.

@windymoors_ I always thought of her as art rock. I would never call her pop.

Dingue. 🥰

@DiGi__Official They're always considered minor genres, but I don't see why. Her approach is truly a continuation of progressive rock. By way of comparison, Peter Gabriel, who was heavily compared to KB at the time and followed a similar career trajectory, is consistently labeled as 'art-rock'.

@windymoors_ idk if ive ever noticed or this phenomena as there are male artists who are art pop (like 平沢進), but kate bush's work is in fact considered art rock, however these rock elements only make a smaller part of each album, tho on nfe it should be used as a primary genre i feel.

Masterpieces like Never for Ever or The Dreaming would undeniably have been categorized as art-rock if they bore a male signature. This semantic distinction feels like yet another way to devalue female artistry, systematically reducing it to something sugary and commercial.
