It's only March, but did you know we have the same sun angle as we do in early September right now? Plus, we are adding daylight at just over 2 mins a day, and here's a look at the next 6 weeks of sunniest and daylight length. #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc

@wxbrad They shouldn't be allowed to do this on what would otherwise be a beautiful Friday getting off work. Why couldn't they do this the day after the storms?

Lots of controlled burns are underway, along with a few wildfires, right now, with the Southwest winds bringing a smoky haze to the region. This will be an ongoing event all weekend long. #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc

@wxbrad Curious why they do this on Friday and Saturdays, or just coincidental the past few times?

So why all the smoke? Well, we are in the spring fire season, and to clear dead and dormant winter vegetation, land managers and the Forest Service will conduct prescribed burns to consume those fuels, maintain a healthy ecosystem, and prevent larger fires. When we have certain wind directions, those smoke plumes blow over you. The fires peak in the mid to late afternoon, when both humidity is lowest, and winds are highest. This will happen every day this weekend and even next week. The fire that caused most of the smoke around Charlotte was clearly visible on the second satellite image this morning, down in South Carolina near Newberry. #cltwx #ncwx sscwx #wc nc #smoke #fire

🧵 The Kernel Boot Blind Spot: Why EDR/AVs are "Brainless" in Phase 0 (SERVICE_BOOT_START) If you think the Windows Registry is fully available when Kernel Drivers initialize, you’re mistaken. If you think the Filesystem as you are familiar with is fully initialized during the Phase 0, you’re mistaken. And judging by my recent Procmon boot logs (up-to-date Windows 11 25H2), even #Microsoft developers seem to forget this architectural reality. 1⃣ The Hive Gap During Phase 0 (SERVICE_BOOT_START) and Phase 1 (SERVICE_SYSTEM_START), the OS Loader and Kernel only map the SYSTEM hive. The SOFTWARE hive and others? They don’t exist yet. They are physically on disk, but not mounted into the Object Manager namespace until smss.exe kicks in (Phase >1). 2⃣ The "NAME NOT FOUND" Wall of Shame I boot-logged a fresh Windows 11 25H2 install (you can do too). The amount of Microsoft drivers (e.g., Ntfs.sys, Tcpip.sys, Fvevol.sys, Mup.sys, Crashdmp.sys, Netio.sys, Pacer.sys, etc.) spamming RegOpenKey on HKLM\SOFTWARE and getting NAME NOT FOUND is comical. They are blindly grasping for config keys that architecturally cannot exist yet. 3⃣ The EDR Constraint This is exactly why AV/EDR vendors force their core config into the SYSTEM hive (usually under their Service key). During Phase 0, they have no Filesystem and no SOFTWARE hive. They are loaded, but they are operating in a limited standalone capacity. 4⃣ The "Golden Window" Modern EDRs load their Kernel Filters at SERVICE_BOOT_START (Phase 0). But they are mostly passive monitors here—"look but don't touch"—because they lack the Intelligence provided by their User-Mode services (which don't start until Phase 2/Auto-Start). 5⃣ The Kill Chain This creates a fatal architectural flaw. A malicious driver loaded at SERVICE_SYSTEM_START (Phase 1) can execute after the Filesystem is writable but before the EDR's User-Mode "Brain" starts. You can surgically delete the EDR's service binaries from disk while its Kernel Filter is watching, effectively disarming it before it ever fully wakes up. The filter sees the IO, but without its User-Mode backend to provide heuristics or cloud verdict, it defaults to a fail-open state for signed drivers. 💡 TL;DR: Phase 0/1 = No SOFTWARE Hive. EDR Kernel Drivers = Awake but "Brainless." Phase 1 Driver = God Mode for EDR Neutralization. We all learned something today. Apparently, some MS driver devs need to learn it too. 😉 #WindowsInternals #KernelMode #EDR #AV #Infosec #ReverseEngineering #Bypass

@winlogon0 Yes, I have a prior history of all of those, and I cover it in the book. Of course, everyone's different and your mileage may vary! I'm not an expert, so I just relate what worked for me.

I've been married 32 years, and we didn't know I had ASD/Asperger's for the first 25. Which means my wife lived with it for three decades before we figured it out. Which, as you might guess, makes her something of an angel. I don't have multiple personalities as Grimes asserts Elon does, unless "two" counts as multiple... but there is a VERY distinct break between "chill Dave" and "burn it all down, we're solving this right now, my way" Dave. That "flip" can be palpable for those around me. In the Musk biography, they call it "Demon Mode", and I find that a little harsh. You don't want that mode in the ticket line at Disneyland, but in a real crisis, you WANT me on that wall. You NEED me on that wall. It's like that. Something about the way my brain processes Dopamine makes me a monster in tough moments. Until I miss a flight connection and it breaks me later. What I thought were "episodes" were meltdowns. What I thought might be a personality disorder turned out to be autism. Over the course of five years of writing and self-discovery, I've figured most of it out. I'm not "cured", but I'm self-aware enough to manage things far better than earlier in life. And so, I'm not here to say "get diagnosed". But I will repeat at all costs that singular advice from aeons ago. No matter who you are or what you've got going on: Know Thyself Then act accordingly.

"Asperger's makes you a very difficult person," Grimes says. "He's not good at reading the room. His emotional comprehension is just very different from the average human." People should keep his psychological makeup in mind when judging him, she argues. "If someone has depression or anxiety, we sympathize. But if they have Asperger's we say he's an asshole." She learned to navigate the many modes of his personalities. "He has numerous minds and many fairly distinct personalities," she says. "He moves between them at a very rapid pace. You just feel the air in the room change, and suddenly the whole situation is just transferred over to his other state." She noticed that his different personalities had different tastes, even in music and decor. "My favorite version of E is the one who's down for Burning Man and will sleep on a couch, eat canned soup, and be chill." Her bete noire is the Elon that's in what she calls demon mode. "Demon mode is when he goes dark and retreats inside the storm in his brain." One night, when they were at dinner with a group, I watched as the clouds gathered and Musk's mood shifted. Grimes edged away from him. "When we hang out, I make sure I'm with the right Elon," she later explained. "There are guys in that head who don't like me, and I don't like them." "Sometimes one of the Elon versions will seem not to remember what another one has done. 'You will say stuff to him and then he'll just have no memory of it whatsoever, because he was in a brain space," Grimes says. "He's focused on a particular thing, he will not get stimulation, not consume any inputs from the outside world. Stuff can be right in front of his eyes and he won't see it. It's just like what happened when he was in grade school." In the 2018 emotional turmoil at Tesla, she tried to coax him to relax. "Everything doesn't need to suck," she told him one night. "You don't need to feel stoked about everything all the time." But he also understood, in ways that others did not, that his restlessness was a driver of his success. So, too, was his demon mode, though that took her a little longer to appreciate. "Demon mode causes a lot of chaos," she says, "but it also gets shit done."
