Today we shipped one of the biggest projects I’ve worked on in my almost 6 years at Shopify: Shopify Marketing Tools. Everything (like, for real) you need to grow your email list and market to them, built right into Shopify.

To influence others and get alignment, someone has to be willing to go out of their comfort zone and intentionally ask what others care about and understand why they matter. It takes intention, humility, curiosity, and an genuine interest in seeing from a different perspective.

During the office hour we got a lot of questions about how to even start bridging the gap between disciplines. We all want the other disciplines to appreciate what we do, designers and developers alike. But influencing doesn’t happen by accident.

In craft-specific conferences, x-discipline collab is always a hot topic. #LeadDevLondon set a great example of getting the other disciplines to share their perspective directly. Thanks @TheLeadDev for trying this format, @jstanier and @janetbalneaves for the spicy discussions
