Dear friends, Reading your comments to my previous tweet, I realized that it should have been clearer and more responsible. It was obviously not aimed at Danya's close friends or God forbid family. I was referring to people who now refer to themselves as friends, but did very little to help. It did annoy me, and does annoy now. I never had a privilege to call Danya a friend, but I acknowledge that FIDE also could and should have done better. We need to look into our policies, and probably not to wait for a formal complaint, but to step in and protect the people in such a situations. Very difficult to balance it all, but we will do our utmost. On a personal level: the news of Danya's passing shocked me. It triggered a lot of feelings, and maybe I was too emotional writing about it. And emotions are rarely a good companion of wisdom.

Allegations should’ve been handled by platforms, not through years of Kramnik’s harassment. We need consistency from platforms as well.

@wintopia @krishras23 @VBkramnik All you’re demonstrating is key NPC behavior. Players have been accused of cheating all the time. Niemann had the best player in the world accusing him and even had him banned, but if he had ever done anything to take his life, Magnus wouldn’t be blamed for it.

@bly_casbarro @paulg I think this is another great point. We are just now realizing that there are a whole lot of very smart women, but up until recently they had little representation. Maybe it’s harder to be bitter when there’s explicit bias, but what does one fall back on when there isn’t?

@paulg I would encourage you to not paint this entire group with a broad brush of negativity. Think how few intelligent ambitious women of my generation (boomers) were promoted to C-suite levels or given board seats. These women didn’t become bitter but rather kept working for change.

It seems to be a very poisonous combination to be smart and ambitious and yet not to have achieved very much. Such people are both bitter and highly effective at realizing that bitterness.
