Jack assumes one can only see the left half of the sigmoid curve.
Bryan is assuming one can only see the "middle portion" of the sigmoid curve.
You're thinking on the differential scale, where every portion looks linear locally.

any continuously differentiable function would look linear at a local level, so,, it doesn't matter where you stand
..and even if you look at it on a broader level, it's not exponential either, because sigmoids aren't exponential 😭
