I find it interesting that non-powerscalers, most of which have some bias or contempt for the topic, are trying to tell powerscalers what powerscaling is. It really is a simple topic, it’s just a writing tool for consistency. Every fictional world has its rules it must follow, this is the entire reason why authors create power systems in the first place. I have been scaling since 2013, hell I’ve been paid to do it. But some of these people genuinely think they know something we don’t, it’s just silly. Powerscaling is simply a scaling chain between characters based off feats/statements. Authors themselves powerscale, if character A beats B and B beats C, then C cannot beat A through raw power alone. This forces the author to create interesting alternative ways for weaker characters to beat stronger ones (Hax abilities/weaknesses) Just because you find some scalers annoying doesn’t invalidate it as an important writing tool, without it your world feels hollow, the rules feel pointless and it becomes nonsensical. It’s not just a “hobby” it doesn’t only happen by fans, it doesn’t only happen after a story is over. The Bible has powerscaling, Greek mythology has powerscaling, REAL LIFE has powerscaling. People want consistency within their stories but all of a sudden when the topic of fights come up they act like it suddenly doesn’t matter when fights are usually the climax of major conflicts in stories.

@e_fosa08 He taught Zuko how to heat himself with his breathe, something Aang did all the time at night to sleep. That's an airbending thing

One of the best details about Iroh is how deeply he studied the philosophies of the other elements instead of limiting himself to firebending alone. He learned from waterbenders that true strength comes from redirection, which is how he created lightning redirection. But his time in prison perfectly shows how much he understood earthbending too. Instead of forcing an escape, Iroh did exactly what King Bumi described as the essence of earthbending: neutral jing — listening, waiting, and striking only at the right moment. He trained in silence, observed everything, and patiently waited for the eclipse before making his move. No wasted effort. No panic. Just perfect timing. That’s why Iroh became more than just a powerful firebender. He embodied the balance and wisdom of all four nations.

The key to earthbending is listening and waiting for the right moment to strike: I love how Iroh adopted the core philosophy of earthbending when he was locked up just like Bumi, Iroh persisted and waited patiently in prison without making a move until the right moment was presented to him, which was during the eclipse. It ties in to his quote about adopting the four elements in someone’s life to become stronger.

@linkkling (Hard) instances are just when we show up to the same area twice. There's two expeditions into Qarn, but one is higher level, so that's (Hard). Early Primal fights were 4man instances and the (Hard) versions are 8man. They stopped doing this after ARR (maybe Heavensward?)

can someone explain the duty difficulties to me bc i've always been so confused. what's the difference between (hard) ones and the regular ones and why do some duties have both but some only exist as (hard) without having base versions. and how does that relate to (extreme) ones
