Temples, … are the soul of the countryside: they mark the beginning of its settlement, and have been passed down through many generations to the men of today. In them the farming communities rest their hopes for husbands, wives, children, for their oxen and the soil —Libanius

@Borealian1839 When animools beat their tail against the floor while lying down, I used to call it “flooping”. Therefore this little kitten is being “flooped”.

@Shinich08413513 I’ll be as old as Methuselah and will still listen to One-X and Breaking Benjamin’s Phobia. Couldn’t care less what critics say. I was raised on 144p AMVs.

Now Listening To: Three Days Grace: One-X Yes I’m unironically listening to this, it’s been awhile since I’ve last heard this album.

@AnInnes3 In other words aesthetic beauty is not relevant to cult images, though cult images are often beautiful for completely different reasons. To judge a cult image by whether or not it was “virtuously crafted” is a rather... impious exercise, I think.

@AnInnes3 Sculpture-as-art is distinct from cult images. These modern sculptures are made to be public monuments which inspire a certain type of awe in the beholder. Cult images are literally objects imbued with spiritual power which in many cases were hidden from public view.

In the Anglosphere we can be quite near-sighted (esp. post-WW2 imo). Find a normie outside of a university campus who knows anything about literature in German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Greek, etc. Maybe you’ll find someone who knows a little French if you’re lucky.

Our current, colloquial dichotomy between the “classics” and “modern literature” seems embarrassingly inadequate. A select group of fiction novels reign supreme. Religious/mythological texts, poetry, drama, nonfiction stories, and, indeed, obscure fiction novels, are neglected.

@Politzania10 That’s cool. Most of my ancestors were just boatbuilders, fishermen, woodsmen, and other such normies.

@witagon Yeah it was pretty bad from what I read. 80% of the men in my past generations served in the Military but I dont have alot of war stories.

Found a picture of my Great Grandfather, Horace Sydney May, in a group photo at St. Mewans School in Cornwall. He would later go onto fight as an Artillery man on the western front in WW1 at the age of 16, and later became a Captain in the Royal Army.

@witagon Wow. I recently read in a news Article that one of my Ancestors from 1922 died in a freak accident; he fell into a moving hopper on a ship and got mangled to death.

@Honvelis I’m sure I could learn if I wanted to dedicate my time to it, but it is very impressive to see people do it naturally if you have never practiced it before.
