@McFaul @alexstubb How come that in such a small country they have this kind of president - and in the US they came up with DJT.

How to lose the 21st century to China: 1. Unilaterally disarm regarding the soft power competition by ending economic aid and international media agencies. 2. Impose tariffs irrationally on everyone. 3. Invade Greenland, break up NATO, and isolate the US from the entire world. 4. Defund universities. 5. Discourage the best and brightest from immigrating to the US. 6. Withdraw from international organizations, handing over their control to the Chinese Communist Party. 7. Foment polarization between Americans. 8. Stop supporting democracy abroad; just talk about power. 9. Weaken American democratic institutions at home.

I met some Americans at last year‘s Oktoberfest. They asked me if I thought the US was moving towards fascism. Today, I think they are 99% there. Full immunity for all ICE agents? Killing unarmed women in cold blood? Uncontrolled government? That’s it.
Rutger Bregman@rcbregman

Many are laughing at how clownish this administration feels, but historians of fascism aren’t laughing, some are packing their bags. Crackdowns on universities. Pressure on judges. Tactics straight out of Hungary and Poland, now showing up here.

1 The quantity of AI generated articles has surpassed the quantity of human generated articles. 2 Quality degrades as AI learns from AI generated content. This is why people and companies with excellent taste will stand out in the coming years. All the best leaders I speak to are trying to hire people with taste. But, what is taste? Like an art critic, or fashion mogul, taste means you know what excellence looks like in your field. You have studied the craft and can see the differences in details. You can distinguish between what is run of the mill and what is new, unique, interesting. You can translate that into original thought, in a form that is actionable. Taste operates on a scale. On one end are people without taste, they can’t critique. On the other end are a tiny minority of people that are so attuned to it, they can define it. They are tastemakers. How do you get it? Taste comes from observation and introspection. Anyone can grow it and move up the scale. You read, watch and study culture. You go deep in your area but go broad also. You are in tune with the zeitgeist. You think about what you are seeing, consuming, and question whether you think it is good. You learn why things are considered good or bad. For us building and marketing technology, it means you understand the internet. You live online. You live in feeds. But you also study people, thoughtfully observe the world around you, watch and discuss movies, read magazines, listen to music and people, etc. If you are a builder, or a marketer, this is a very valuable skill, and it will only become more valuable. Invest in it, your future career will thank you!

80 years ago today, theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer was executed for resisting Nazi Germany. He denounced antisemitism and declared Nazism incompatible with Christianity. His legacy lives on in Germany’s commitment to remembrance and the fight against antisemitism.

In a few words JD Vance has done more damage to Transatlantic relations than anyone before. The people around me are all shocked. He attacked Europe of exactly the things happening in the US (see closing agencies, banning journalists, banning books,…) every day now.
CALL TO ACTIVISM@CalltoActivism

Wow! German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius SLAMS JD Vance's speech as undemocratic and calls it "not acceptable." “Here in Germany, we fight for your right to disagree against us.” He’s 100% right!

Stimme voll zu: das ist mal eine klare, starke Rede. Er weist auch darauf hin, WO Medien von PKs ausgeschlossen werden, die das Wording einer Regierung nicht teilen. (AP in Washington DC). Unfassbar, absolut unfassbar, was Vance gesagt hat. Pistorius for chancellor!
DJ P.R. 🙄@djpr

Saustarke Reaktion von Pistorius auf den Schwachsinn, den Vance heute rausgehauen hat. Beruhigend, dass sich nicht alle unterwerfen – anders als Söder heute.

Don’t ever fly #airfrance - all of a sudden they make you check in hand luggage. I’ve been doing this trip so many times before. Seems they are trying to make your life more difficult. Glad there are alternatives who are much friendlier.

Rabbi Shmuel Reichman@ShmuelReichman

This is the best interview I have EVER seen. Ever; ever; ever; nothing comes close. Douglas Murrey has a heart – and mind – of gold. And what unfolds in this seven-minute clip is something you need to watch for yourself. (Once you see it halfway through, you’ll know exactly what I’m referring to.) But he articulates something which I have been trying to share for the past month: The Nazis, as fundamentally evil as they were, believed that they were engaging in a necessary evil for an ultimate good; they still had a spark of humanity at their core; thus, their main flaw was that they believed the ends justified the means; even though they fully believed in the “result” of a world without Jews, they were still fundamentally opposed to the “actions” they were taking. This is what motivated the Nazis to find ways of circumventing the existential moral decay they were entering, and allowed them to get creative by using the gas chambers, mass shootings (in the BACK of the head – to avoid direct facial contact), and other passive forms of mass annihilation, while also having as few Nazis as possible actually involved in these acts of murder; they then encouraged those individuals who were involved in this atrocity of mass murder to get drunk every night in order to wash away the person they started seeing in the mirror. Thus, the existential decay of these individual Nazis actively involved in the mass murder of the Jewish People was simply seen as another layer of “the ends justify the means.” They were the epitome of “Western” evil. Hamas is the exact opposite. This IS their value system. They prize death, murder, rape, suicide missions, and everything that opposes the very foundation of values and truth to begin with. The events of October 7th was not an end to a means… there is no future goal… this IS the goal. They are the epitome of an evil the likes of which we have never before seen. Please – I know this is social media and some people only watch 60-second soundbites; but please, please, please watch this brilliant interview. Douglas Murray – you are a credit to everything worth being credited.
