I may stick around for a day or two longer on this account, to see if anyone responds. But anyway, bye! 6/6 ...END. 😪

For now, I will continue to post from my FT account, which is more bearable, as I see mostly science/tech stuff there. But I think I will probably spend less time on Twitter and social media generally, so even that may be archived at some point: @future_timeline 5/6

For various reasons, I've decided to archive this account. I may return to it at some point, but for now it's bad for my mental health to see a continual stream of right-wing hatred and idiocy on my feed. @reynardo98 @mic_orion 🧵 1/6

@Keir_Starmer FYI, you recently lost my vote over these repeated statements. It should be obvious by now after 7 years of this nonsense that nobody can "make Brexit work". I get that you have to appeal to low-IQ bigots, but ruling out the SM & CU *guarantees* our ongoing economic stagnation.

@canadiancarol1 But that was seven years ago. You're saying people aren't allowed to change their minds?

@andrewmottram1 You are incapable of accepting one of the biggest democratic votes ever in the UK. Why should I listen to you?

@GeorgeMonbiot I expect most of these promises will be watered down and/or quietly dropped at some point, to appease the billionaire elites and their Red Tory bootlicker supporters. Labour will promise a lot, and will be an improvement on the Tories, but still delivering incrementalism.

I've been pretty sceptical to date, but it seems that things are looking up. We might actually get some strong policies.

So far @UKLabour have pledged to: - End all new oil & gas drilling - Bring in a Scottish-style right to roam - Invest £28bn/ year in climate jobs - Let councils buy land cheaply to tackle housing crisis - Bring in a Community Right to Buy Sounds pretty transformational to me...

@MisterIPCC In the case of IPCC reports, the scientists are literally unpaid. But indeed, let's pretend they're all rich elites and the fossil fuel lobby are actually the good guys without any hidden "agenda" at all.

63 new moons of Saturn discovered 🪐🪨🔭 #Saturn has become the first planet known to host over 100 moons! "Somewhat like Moore's Law, we can see that modern observation techniques have led to an exponential acceleration of discoveries." ▶️ Read more: futuretimeline.net/blog/2023/05/2…

@MisterIPCC "Lacking in empathy" is perhaps the best description. When you're a right-winger, you care less about others. It's dog-eat-dog, every person for themselves. An utterly foul ideology IMO, but apparently 30-50% of the population are like this. I don't know what the solution is.

@markepsom We aren't talking about warming a cup of coffee by 1 or 2°C, but an entire planet. The amount of energy required for that is simply insane – equivalent to several nuclear bombs per second. The impacts are myriad and growing. As just one example, coral reefs are already dying off.

@wjfox I was well aware of the full dataset, if you look at the Hadley data you can see a similar uptick in the late 17th Century. We are talking about a mere 1 degree increase over the last 100 years with relative stability this century. Beyond trivial!

A huge thanks to @GaryLineker for speaking out, and showing the moral leadership, neither main political party in the UK is showing. To those who just try to deny the climate crisis, I post the following evidence. 1/🧵
Channel 4 News@Channel4News

"The only demonstrations that really work are disruptive ones." @GaryLineker believes disruptive climate protesters could be considered "heroes" if the world takes action against the climate crisis, and says "it's very worrying" people are being arrested for protesting.

@markepsom Since the Industrial Revolution hadn't yet begun in 1700, the rise you see there was caused by natural factors. Today's rise is far more significant. On a longer timescale, and globally, the trend is even clearer. What could possibly be causing this rise? temperaturerecord.org

@wjfox What caused the rapid temperature rises all those years ago? This chart doesn't really shout climate emergency!

@markepsom Both of these statements can be true: 1. Deaths from natural disasters have been declining. 2. Human emissions of greenhouses gases are contributing to the greenhouse effect, with increasingly negative impacts. Or do you really believe they're mutually exclusive?

@markepsom Mark, all you need to do is switch "January" to "Annual" in the dropdown menu. This clearly shows a rapid uptick in the UK's yearly average temperature since 1970 or so. Now that I've pointed this out, do you acknowledge it? Are you open minded, and willing to shift your views?
