Today’s trade deal to significantly reduce Chinese tariffs on canola and other Canadian products is very good news for Canada and Saskatchewan. This deal is a very positive signal that will restore existing trade volumes and open avenues for further opportunities for Canadians. Today demonstrates the importance of foreign trade missions and shows what can be achieved when the federal and provincial governments and our export industries work together to strengthen our trade relationships. Saskatchewan will continue these efforts in our export markets around the world.

The reckless NDP wants us to close down trade offices and stop trade missions. We will not do that. In the face of tariffs, we will continue to work side-by-side our exporters. Saskatchewan exports nearly $50 billion worth of goods providing good paying jobs for Sask. people.

Our government is working to secure the future of the Saskatchewan canola industry, which today faces significant challenges due to Chinese tariffs. Tomorrow we will make an important announcement for canola producers and processors in Yorkton. On Thursday, the Federal Agriculture Minister, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, provincial ministers and I will host a meeting with canola sector leaders in Saskatoon to discuss Canada’s response to the Chinese tariffs.
