@joyjah79 Are you being asked to critique it for substance, organization, language skills? I guess I would compare the essay to major reviews of the book and see the extent to which the basic thesis holds water. Is he getting the main idea of the book? Does he use supporting evidence well?

@mariodayba I’m skeptical that, given the sheer number of Muslims there are worldwide, the desire to reconquer Al-Andalus is anywhere near a majority opinion popularly or among academics and religious leaders. I’m willing to be proven wrong but language barriers likely would be a problem.

@wks4n Obviously, you haven’t been paying attention to what many Muslims are saying about reconquering Bilad al-Andalus (Andalusia) These are not obscure underground scholars making such claims, but mainstream academics and religious leaders.

Arabs insist that Lebanon is Arabic because they consider the land itself Islamized. Once Muslim armies conquered a territory in the 7th century, Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) ruled it becomes Dar al-Islam (Muslim land forever, belonging to Allah). It can never truly revert. Even if Christians, Druze or others lived there before or after, to them the land stays “Islamic/Arab” in that worldview. This is why you hear “Lebanon is Arab” they don’t mean language or culture, they mean the permanent religious claim on the territory. You can be a non-Arab Muslim (like Turks, Indonesians, Persians). But Arab and Islam are almost impossible to fully separate in this land-ownership logic.

@ori_goldberg No one ever asked Eastern European dissidents why they stayed in their respective countries during the Cold War. That criticism makes little sense to me.

I have recently been asked about how my criticism of Israel as a genocidaire society can be reconciled with my choice to live and stay in Israel. My answer is simple. I was suckled at the supremacist teat. Even as I grew up critical, I enabled the genocide by accepting the inevitability of the Israeli "way". I will never expunge my conscience. Still, I stay here precisely because of the immediacy and the urgency. Nothing is the same during and after genocide. Like all other Jewish Israelis, I need to come apart at the seams if I am to have any opportunity of redemption. I cannot simply leave and get on with it. I cannot get on with it. I am here because rock bottom is here. Any semblance of life can begin only from rock bottom and after its acknowledgement.

I did not allow the PBS anchor to spread lies. Israel is not "killing" journalists in Lebanon - we are killing terrorists.

@KrisztinaMaria What’s the problem? I have personally consumed Kosher food and I’m not Jewish. Likewise, I’ve probably consumed Halal food and didn’t even know it. I honestly could care less. I’ve known Muslims who’ve sent their kids to Catholic schools. If you want labels, fine.

HALAL. Is it too much to ask that my meat in the supermarket is clearly labelled halal - if it is halal? No. It is not too much. It is the bare minimum. I would like to decline eating food over which an Islamic prayer has been said. That goes against everything I believe in. Against my values. Against my faith. And it is my full right as a consumer and as a Christian to know what I put in my mouth - and what has happened to it before it got there. This is not about hatred towards Muslims (so take it easy). It is about respect for myself. And here is what is so absurd…sorry, what is so grotesque: A large proportion of the meat sold in Danish (or EU) supermarkets is halal slaughtered. Without it being clearly stated. Without you as a consumer being actively informed. You buy it. You eat it. And you don’t know. Halal slaughter means the animal must face Mecca. That an Islamic prayer - Bismillah Allahu Akbar - is recited over the animal before it is slaughtered. That the meat is thereby dedicated to Allah. This is not a neutral product. It is a religious ritual. And I - as a Christian - did not ask to participate in that ritual. I was not asked. I was not informed. It just happened. Imagine the reverse. Imagine Muslims being served food that had been blessed in the name of Jesus without knowing it. The uproar it would cause. Rightfully so. So why is it not the same when it happens the other way around? Because it is never the same. It is never symmetrical. The consideration always goes one way. Label the meat. Clearly. Always. Not as a hostile act. But as the most basic respect for consumers’ right to know what they are buying…and what they do not want. This is not racism (so relax, again). It is consumer protection!❤️‍🔥✝️🪽

@LadyLevnon This kind of exclusivity has no place in the world today. Even genetic studies show that all Lebanese share a common Canaanite origin. If you believe in democracy, then it has to be for all citizens or else it means nothing.

@DanBurmawy Your evidence contradicts your assertion that Islam is incompatible with peace with “Jews.” The converse of your statement implies that Jews can only make peace with dictatorial, anti-democratic regimes. Makes you wonder why that would be.

Former Sunni Prime Minister of Lebanon Fouad Al-Siniora attacked Christian leader Samir Geagea for supporting peace with Israel today. Don’t think that Hezbollah is the only obstacle to peace between Lebanon and Israel, no. . Islam in general is hostile to Jews, and peace between Muslims and Jews is not possible except when there is an Islamic dictatorial political leadership that forces the population into a form of cold peace (Egypt, Jordan), or a wise, culturally Islamic leadership that convinces the population of the benefits of peace (UAE). Other than that, in a country like Lebanon, where there is no legitimate Islamic political leadership, Sunnis are more opposed to peace than Shia.

There was NO “genocide” in Gaza. There was a WAR. A war which Hamas started by murdering 1,200 Jews in one day & kidnapping hundreds more. A war which Hamas totally LOST. If you deliberately start an insane war, don’t complain if you get killed in the fighting.

@DanBurmawy The problem isn’t Muslims integrating into “Western civilization.” Most feel like they are integrated just fine. The issue is that Westerners simply fear them and don’t want them there. And this applies to other immigrant groups who are non-white, non-Muslim.

Go to the Christian towns in Lebanon and you feel like you’re in Europe. Go to the Muslim regions and you feel like you’re in Kandahar. Muslims couldn’t cross the cultural gap with their Christian neighbors in a tiny Middle Eastern country that shares the same land, the same language, and thousands of years of common history. Now imagine the West expecting Muslims to integrate into Western civilization.

Billy Bob Thornton didn’t hold back on Joe Rogan: “Who the hell wants to listen to an actor or musician talk about politics? Just accept your little award and f... off.” He quietly donates to children’s charities but refuses to virtue-signal on stage. He calls himself a “radical moderate” — strong opinions, no tribe. Joe agreed: we need a common-sense party that focuses on “what actually works” instead of “us versus them” tribal warfare. After elections, stop screaming “we’re winning!” or trashing the other side. Hope the winner does a good job for everyone. It’s rare, refreshing honesty in a world drowning in performative politics. When was the last time a celebrity (or anyone) talked politics and you actually thought “yeah, that makes sense”?

🔥Prince Reza Pahlavi just dropped a masterclass response🔥 German journalist tries to trap him:
“Are you an Israeli asset?” Prince Reza fires back without hesitation: “Of course not… but I am a friend to Israelis and the Jews.” Then he schools everyone: After reminding them about Cyrus the Great, he added:
“In modern history, Iran is the only country that harbored Jews escaping Hitler and his regime.” Mic. Dropped.🎤 It’s actually wild that a German journalist feels comfortable throwing shade on Jews and Israel. Prince Reza Pahlavi stays classy, stays truthful, and stays based.
