Every conversation is an opportunity. Next year Oh My Posh becomes a teenager. 10 years ago, a Linux sysadmin mocked me for using Windows, calling it a sub-par operating system that's not used by real engineers. I could have walked away. Instead, I spent the next decade proving them wrong and built a tool that outgrew Windows and PowerShell entirely. What does a decade in numbers look like? - 5059 commits - 880 source files - 162036 lines of code - 3702 pull requests - 505 contributors - 1640 releases In those 10 years, Windows became a legitimate home for software engineers. And yes, I'd like to think I contributed to that. In the corporate world, most software with a decade lifespan gets labeled legacy. Oh My Posh is the opposite. It has grown and evolved over time, both architecturally and functionally. No cruft, no technical debt holding it back. Just continuous improvement. You could ask yourself if there's still room for innovation after building something for a decade. Well. My post about Claude Code integration proves there is. And with agentic AI relying on terminal integration to be impactful, I guess I'm set for another decade of building. I'm still enjoying hacking away in the terminal every day. So next time someone challenges you with a smug comment, flip the script on them.
