Worked from D'ARK The Strand in Thong Lor, Bangkok today 🇹🇭
Limited seats and outlets but nice and comfy
Just make sure to grab a table by an outlet and you're good
A hot cappuccino will run you 130 baht (~$4)
Full menu of coffee, food, cocktails, sweets, and more
Good aircon temp, not very loud
Open Sun-Thur from 7-10, Fri/Sat from 7-11
Recommend shipping here on weekdays as it gets busy during weekends, usually needing a reservation
Used my hotspot but wifi was available (I'll check speed next time)
Easy access via BTS Thonglor

Don’t listen to the propoganda, gaming is a healthy hobby.
In 2026, most people can’t sit down and watch a 20 minute episode of TV without getting distracted. I’d argue that playing a video games, uninterrupted, without checking phone, listening to music, or watching a stream, is as challenging for the brain as reading a book.
Just imagine sitting down and playing Skyrim for 2 hours and only doing that. Lowkey sounds boring.
I believe that anything that helps restore your attention span is a beneficial hobby. And I think that gaming, in its purest form, does just that.
More games gents, more games. Less swiping, more depth, long activities. Games games games. Make games great again!

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗞𝗜𝗙: 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲?
It looks like the lights have dimmed at KIF Cafe Ekkamai. While Google Maps has marked the venue as "permanently closed," their official Facebook page maintains a more hopeful "temporarily closed" status. However, the local rumor mill suggests a major rebrand is underway: the space is expected to transform into 🇬🇧𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯, Ekkamai’s newest English-style local.
KIF only enjoyed a brief run of less than three years.
For those who frequented the spot, the real loss is the "secret room"—a hidden gem equipped with a state-of-the-art DJ booth, a premium sound system, and a dynamic projector. Whether these high-tech features will survive the transition to a traditional pub remains to be seen, but here’s hoping the new venue, The Shakespeare Pub, keeps the spirit of the sound alive.
📍1st Floor, Civic Horizon Hotel & Residences (Rooms 8103 & 8110)
8 Soi Sukhumvit 63 (Soi Ekkamai), Bangkok
🚇 A quick 3-minute stroll (approx. 300m) from 𝗕𝗧𝗦 𝗘𝗸𝗸𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗶
If you're heading that way for a caffeine fix, you might want to pivot to a nearby alternative until the new pub officially opens its doors on Saturday 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀
The transition from a sleek, modern cafe like KIF to a traditional British watering hole involves far more than simply swapping espresso beans for barley. The most immediate hurdle is the 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 "𝘃𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁" required to transform a bright, glass-fronted hotel unit into the cozy, dim, and wood-paneled "snug" that patrons expect from a pub like The Shakespeare. Fortunately, the project is backed by seasoned leadership, with one of the primary figures bringing years of experience managing a successful English pub in neighboring Thong Lor, a pedigree that should help navigate the nuances of the local nightlife scene.
However, even with expert management, the operational bones of the building face a rigorous stress test; cafe kitchens designed for light pastries often lack the heavy-duty ventilation and grease traps necessary for a full menu of fried fish and chips or Sunday roasts. This physical overhaul is compounded by the 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀, which demand dedicated refrigerated space for kegs and complex line installations that KIF’s original floor plan likely never anticipated.
Furthermore, the legal landscape in Ekkamai is notoriously tricky. Upgrading to a 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝟭 𝗟𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 and securing late-night entertainment permits within a residential-hotel complex brings intense scrutiny regarding noise control and operating hours.
Perhaps the most intriguing question is the fate of KIF’s "secret room." While it isn't yet confirmed if the high-spec DJ booth and premium sound system will be retained, expectations are high given that one of the key partners in the project has DJ experience. Blending a traditional pub feel with a high-end audio lounge could provide the unique edge needed to stand out—especially since the established Ekkamai Beer House sits just a few minutes further north, offering a more conventional competition.
Whether The Shakespeare leans into its "beats and beers" potential or opts for a classic quiet local, it has a sophisticated Ekkamai audience waiting to see if it can successfully bridge the gap between "chic" and "cheers."
𝗠𝘆 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁: 𝟲.𝟱/𝟭𝟬
It’s a bold move to open so close to the Ekkamai Beer House, but the "DJ-meets-Draught" angle is a fresh play. This isn't just another pub opening; it's a calculated gamble by industry veterans. The potential for a "cult classic" status is high.
