I was rereading the beast AU extra, and only now did I notice this parallel.
When Mokyeon asks Nanjo if he will send him away after he grows up, he says:
“Then I’ll just stop growing.”
Nanjo laughs and says that’s not something he can control.
But then Mokyeon replies:
“If I stopped eating and drinking, wouldn’t I stay the same and never grow older?”
At that moment, Nanjo becomes serious.
He tells him not to say such foolish things and says:
“As long as you grow strong and healthy, that’s all I could ever ask for. That alone is my greatest joy.”
Later, he also says:
“Wait until you’ve grown. After you’ve eaten well and gotten bigger than me, then we’ll…”
After the recent chapters, I can’t stop thinking about this scene.
In the extra, Mokyeon wanted to stop eating so he wouldn’t grow up and lose Nanjo.
And in the main story, he has also stopped eating properly. He barely eats, drinks alcohol instead, and has become much thinner.
Of course, the reasons are completely different. But the parallel still feels very meaningful to me.
It makes me wonder if the extra wasn’t just a cute side story, but also a small hint.
Maybe in the main story, Nanjo will see how badly Mokyeon has been taking care of himself, and his own words — “As long as you grow strong and healthy, that’s all I could ever ask for.” — will finally come back.
And maybe the promise to “always stay by his side” will finally come true, not in the beast AU, but in their real story. 🥹🤍
