This just floored me. Scientists discovered 5.6 million ground-nesting bees living under a single cemetery in Ithaca, New York. That’s one of the largest and oldest bee aggregations ever recorded. These aren’t hive bees. About 70% of native bee species in the U.S. nest in the ground, and they’re incredible pollinators doing a ton of heavy lifting for wildflowers and crops. The best part? This giant colony exists in a place people walk over every day without realizing it. Nature often thrives in the quiet spaces we overlook.
