The clawback function exists, in our system though is not used nor possible. We don’t “sell water” and not even operate at consumer level water distribution. Our system just values the impact of companies reclaiming water from alternative sources (instead of withdrawing from primary supply).. the only, potential, impact on the end user could be eventually lower cost of water by having increased availability of primary supply at local level.

@adelbucetta @Algorand 100% agree, blockchain applied to environmental credits is a straight enbaler, guarantees robust MRV which allows insurance companies to underwrite reputational risk coverage. This would be impossible for off-chain mechanisms.

We can only applaud the MASSIVE work @wtrtoken has been doing so far and the real adoption underway! They've used Algorand to tokenize 160M+ m3 of reclaimed water so far! 🤯 After Portugal, Italy, and Cape Verde, they're now driving water credit adoption in the UK as well! 💧

Hypercube has partnered with YTL Corporation to launch the UK's first blockchain-verified water reuse credit, built on Algorand. Treated wastewater. Tokenised credits. 2.9 million people served. This is RWA tokenization in practice.

Most of you have heard about tokenizing real estate. But what about doing the same with... water? 🚰 Hypercube's @wtrtoken initiative is doing just that. It converts verified cubic meters of recycled and reclaimed water into onchain credits ($WTR) on the @Algorand blockchain. These credits are then being used by companies (already in Portugal, Angola, and Brazil) to offset water consumption with verified reclaimed supply. Blockchain serves a simple yet critical role there – it provides a transparent and immutable ledger. Each credit represents a real-world unit of reclaimed water, preventing double-counting and making corporate water stewardship genuinely auditable. It’s not another small-scale bc pilot. Since launching in early 2024, the project has tokenized over 50 million cubic meters of reclaimed water. 🏊 Equivalent to about 40,000 Olympic swimming pools – across more than 550,000 onchain transactions. Then, if anyone mentions the negative environmental impact of Web3 technology, counter with this use case.

Correct, the emission is capped to max 20m per 30 days window to avoid large water treatment plants onboarding affecting emission disproportionally. But ultimatley, no WTR goes out in the market unless it’s backed by a tracked and audited (both remotely and on-site by third party like SGS or TUV) reclaimed cubic meter.

about 60m currently but every cubic meter of reclaimed water triggers the issuing of a WTR from the pre-minted 1B off-market total supply to the circulating supply. Every time a WTR is retired to offset an equivalent cubic meter of water footprint the token is transferred back to the off-marker supply waiting for a new cubic meter being reclaimed is ready to be paired.

By 2030, water demand will exceed sustainable supply by 40%. Hypercube & WaterLab are using Algorand to tokenize 50M+ m³ of reclaimed water (target: 100M by year-end). Each m³ is tracked on-chain, turning @wtrtoken credits into real-world impact.
