@UpdraftwMax @andrewtornado11 To my knowledge, one of the few studies that has looked at the effects of 6+ km shear on supercells is Warren et al. 2017, which includes a wind profile where the winds back above 6 km. Differences in precip distribution was one of their main findings, if I recall correctly.

@andrewtornado11 Something that stands out about these wind profiles is the leftward turning of the hodograph above 6 km. Certainly a somewhat unusual hodograph feature. What does this do?

Some thoughts about today and in general (long thread). Obviously today was insane. I am glued to my phone staring in awe at every tornado photo and video. Of course, like I’m sure many others are, I am asking the question “why today?” What was so special about today?

@Rhapsodyinbrown @jmeso212 Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any effective method for plotting 3D streamlines other than plotly. But, I also haven't tried to plot streamlines in 3D very frequently. I've mostly used 3D quivers, but that's much easier.

@jmeso212 Any thoughts on this, @wx_geoff?

Does anyone have suggestions for calculating and plotting 3D streamlines in python? Plotly streamtube is nice but the inability to adjust linewidth makes it nearly unusable.

@Rhapsodyinbrown Excuse me, Matt, but I think WxTwitter knows what they're talking about. They've seen over 10 tornadoes and done exactly zero damage surveys with no formal survey training, after all.

I really wish WxTwitter put half as much energy into discussing risk communication and inequities in disaster preparedness/resilience as they do bickering over NWS damage ratings 🙄
