There was growing concern that DOGE might remove or relocate critical buildings that supply the weather models, forecasting tools, and warning systems that meteorologists, emergency managers, and even the general public rely on daily. Such a move could have disrupted everything from tornado warnings to hurricane forecasts, impacting lives across the country. With the National Weather Center staying put, we can continue benefiting from cutting-edge advancements in severe weather research, real-time storm tracking, and life-saving forecasts. This means the Storm Prediction Center (SPC), National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL), and NOAA’s top meteorologists can keep doing what they do best—delivering the most accurate weather predictions possible. This is a major win for science, public safety, and the future of meteorology!
