The reason why I don't think they are going to do anything additional with the cube, like some of the cool TNT, backpack, ETC type idea's Ive seen floated, is because they could have done this with many good suggestions for the mace (allowing it to become a hammer as well), the copper golem (smarter AI to handle chests a bit easier), and many other additions. I think once they have their design plans, other than minor tweaks, Mojang doesn't really consider additional recommended functionality.

thought about it more, and i think the chaos cubed drop could be perfected extremely easily: - Add a sulfur powder item - Sulfur powder crafts into gunpowder, is a trim material, speeds up oxidation, and of course crafts the sulfur block - Sulfur cubes drop sulfur powder
