BlackRock’s latest comments on tokenization point to a broader shift in capital markets. In his 2026 letter to investors, Larry Fink said tokenization can make investments easier to issue, trade, and access. The $2.5 trillion trade finance gap continues to hit SMEs the hardest. According to the ADB, 40% of SME trade finance applications are still rejected. Lower than in prior years, but still a major barrier. In many cases, the issue is not execution risk. It is verification friction. ❌ Manual documentation ❌ Long underwriting cycles ❌ Limited credit history ❌ Strict collateral requirements Tokenized invoices, digital trade documents, and smarter verification workflows can help create more transparent audit trails and shorten settlement timelines. For SMEs, that can mean faster cash cycles and better access to working capital. For financial institutions, it can improve compliance, risk visibility, and service reach.
