Nope: The Bible is startlingly realistic when it comes to the problem of endured suffering. The Bible devotes an entire book to dealing with the problem. This book is Job. It begins with a scene in heaven which provides the reader with the background of Job’s suffering. Job suffers because God contested with Satan. As far as we know, this was never known by Job or any of his friends. It is therefore not surprising that they all struggle to explain Job’s suffering from the perspective of their ignorance, until Job finally rests in nothing but the faithfulness of God and the hope of His redemption. Neither Job nor his friends understood at the time the reasons for his suffering. In fact, when Job is finally confronted by the Lord, Job is silent. Job’s silent response does not in any way trivialize the intense pain and loss he had so patiently endured. Rather, it underscores the importance of trusting God’s purposes in the midst of suffering, even when we don’t know what those purposes are. Suffering, like all other human experiences, is directed by the sovereign wisdom of God. In the end, we learn that we may never know the specific reason for our suffering, but we must trust in our sovereign God. That is the real answer to suffering. Another example of suffering in the Bible is Joseph’s story in the book of Genesis. Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers. In Egypt, he was indicted on false charges and thrown into prison. As a result of Joseph’s suffering and endurance, by God’s grace and power, Joseph is later promoted to governor of Egypt, second only to Pharaoh himself. He finds himself in a position to make provision for the nations of the world during a time of famine, including his own family and the brothers who sold him into slavery! The message of this story is summarized in Joseph’s address to his brothers in Genesis 50:19-21: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” Romans 8:28 contains some comforting words for those enduring hardship and suffering: “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” In His providence, God orchestrates every event in our lives—even suffering, temptation and sin—to accomplish both our temporal and eternal benefit. The psalmist David endured much suffering in his time, and this is reflected in many of his poems collected in the book of Psalms. In Psalm 22, we hear David’s anguish: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? Oh my God, I cry out by day but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: 'He trusts in the Lord; let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.'” It remains a mystery to David why God does not intervene and end his suffering and pain. He sees God as enthroned as the Holy One, the praise of Israel. God lives in heaven where all is good, where there is no weeping or fear, no hunger or hatred. What does God know of all that humans endure? David goes on to complain that “dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.” Did God ever answer David? Yes, many centuries later, David received his answer. Roughly one millennium later, a descendant of David named Jesus was killed on a hill called Calvary. On the cross, Jesus endured the suffering and shame of his forefather. Christ’s hands and feet were pierced. Christ’s garments were divided among his enemies. Christ was stared at and derided. In fact, Christ uttered the words with which David opens this psalm: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” thus identifying Himself with the suffering of David. Christ, the eternal Son of God in whom the fullness of God dwells, has lived on earth as a human being and has endured hunger, thirst, temptation, shame, persecution, nakedness, bereavement, betrayal, mockery, injustice and death. Therefore, He is in a position to fulfill the longing of Job: “If only there were someone to arbitrate between us, to lay his hand upon us both, someone to remove God’s rod from me, so that his terror would frighten me no more. Then I would speak up without fear of him, but as it now stands with me, I cannot” (Job 9:33). Christian theism is, in fact, the only worldview which can consistently make sense of the problem of evil and suffering.

Women divorcing their husbands over infidelity is unbiblical, it was historically very rare, impractical, and strongly discouraged/stigmatized until about 1960 when no-fault divorce became legal, and since then it has been very harmful to society. Young men are hesitant to marry because of sky high divorce rates, so both men and women live in sin until about age 30 when they finally marry. Many more marriages end in divorce. Both out-of-wedlock births and divorce leave children vulnerable to abuse because their father isn't there to protect them from other men who their mother often brings into the home. This shift has been horrible for society.

The Bible is scandalous, so is grace. Many marriages have been saved after suffering total devastation from all kinds of sins. If this concerns you, that's fine, but marriage is permanent. Don't marry if you aren't ready to love your spouse the way God loved his unfaithful people.

@WhiteBabyFac I’m not sure why you say it’s unbiblical. The Bible and Jesus clearly state that divorce is permissible in the case of sexual immorality. Obviously each woman must consider whether divorce is best in this case, but it’s clearly allowed by God.

He is right. Nobody needs the point, the expected value of such regulation is saving lives. Also for banning the grandfather exception. You don’t need the knives to resist the government either (and it won’t work anyways, it is a horrible idea in the modern world basically no matter how bad your government is), you would need guns and fighter jets and you already don’t have that in Europe.

I wish more people could discern between news and commentary. My personal feelings are grief for Greg Locke and his family. We all make mistakes with our children. And I would never presume to know what caused Evan to make such tragic choices. I truly hope the family can get through this.

It’s crazy to see so many people arguing against a common, (yes exaggerated for humor) lived experience of young men today. Egocentrism is the tendency to view the world primarily from one’s own perspective and to have difficulty recognizing or fully understanding that other people have different thoughts, feelings, needs, beliefs, or knowledge. People in this state often assume others see things the same way they do, or they struggle to “step outside” their own viewpoint.

“So, son, I hear you have interest in my daughter. She is a fine young woman, a fine young woman. You would be very, very lucky to have her.” “Yes sir, I we have been talking for many months, we both are part of the 20 somethings ministry at church…” “Now just to be up front, if you want to marry my daughter you will have to pay off her college loans… it’s not that much, really… , heck, it’s only about the same amount as I paid for our first house thirty some years ago (laughs in 1980s fat dad sitcom laughter…), oh those were the days, but let’s stay on topic shall we… ” “Oh, okay… did she get a useful degree? Does she want to have kids and do a fantastic job keeping our home and is she willing to sacrifice some things the first few years we are married while we have to work to pay those off? ” “Oh… Not so sure how my little princess will feel about all that… Her base expectation is what I do for her mother - a weekly date night at a nice restaurant, once a month two- day getaway to a nice place a state or so away, and yearly 2 week vacation to a tropical destination or foreign country, but she may be willing to fudge on some of this a small, small bit… she does say she likes you some… you are over six feet tall and will make over 100k a year, right?… Oh… and she also has some car and credit card debt, that you will also be taking on…” “Oh… um… okay…” “Oh, and just to be up front, please don’t expect us to babysit or anything like that… once she is married, we plan to be away quite a bit… been pushing off travel and what not for years and years, you understand…. But we will need you all to take care of our dogs when we are away… we currently only have three… all on very special diets and the like, but it will be good practice for when you add kids!” “Aaa….” “Also, she most likely has had two or three boyfriends during college… (who she might have slept with… lets not talk about highschool…)… but you looked at that glossy magazine twice back in 11th grade, so you all are even and equal and square there, actually what you did is way worse, never forget that…” “What…. wait???” “Well, you know, college, she had to get an education! You want her to be a good mom? Right, how could my little princess do that without a degree! (Laughs in 1980s fat dad sitcom again…) So tell me son, how do you plan to be a servant leader to her?” “Actually, sir, never mind, I’m not interested anymore…” Leaves quickly. “Sorry daughter, young men today are just terrible and selfish, but we will eventually find a good servant leader for my little princess… you deserve only the very best, the very best and so few of these men are actually worth your attention… yes I know you turn 34 soon…”

My parents have been married since they were barely 18. When my parents had their first baby at 20, my older sister, my mom got born again. She fell in love with Jesus and started to change. My dad thought she had lost her mind and was so angry about it. He wanted nothing to do with her and threatened to leave them. The devil had foothold on him , but mom prayed. Mom submitted to him but wrote him a letter that said “I love you very much, we need you here, and I hope you don’t leave but I choose Jesus and won’t deny that he comes first” He stayed and got born again. It’s now been 52 years of marriage and 2 more kids. 1 Peter 3:1-2, “Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct.”

Allow me to clear. @reachjulieroys article today about the death of @pastorlocke sons is by far one of the most demonic and condemning things I have ever read. It is true spiritual abuse. lt does not reform the church. I do not believe what she publishes nor do I give credibility to anyone she interviews. It is FAILURE PORN. I pray she takes down the article and issues a public apology. Wake up church. It is time to rise

Key Verses on Freedom from Sin •Romans 6:6 (NLT): "We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin." [1, 2, 3] •Romans 6:14 (NLT): "Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace." [1] •Romans 6:18 (NLT): "Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living." [1] •John 8:36 (NIV): "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." [1, 2] •Galatians 5:1 (NIV): "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." [1] Contextual Understanding •Freedom from Power, Not Presence: These verses mean sin no longer has ultimate dominion over a believer, not that temptation vanishes. •New Master: Instead of being slaves to sin, believers are described as "slaves to righteousness" or servants of God. •Crucified Old Self: The old nature was crucified with Christ, breaking the automatic bondage to sinful desires.

Thank you Sir for standing up and against this. I was shocked and saddened to see this. There are many things I’ve done wrong and things I wished I never would have publicly said, for which I’ve deserved harsh criticism. However this was a low level attack I didn’t think Julie was capable of. We forgive her. Just please continue to pray for our family. We will never be the same.
