@f2harrell @MaartenvSmeden I agree. We use xgboost for inference because it’s much faster than carefully modeling the covariates and their interactions, despite its bias. Sometimes people want to get stuff out in a couple of hours. Serious fields like medicine should have a different trade-off.

#MachineLearning advocates are amazingly still using SMOTE to ruin 'imbalanced' data before analysis and invalidate 'classifications' they develop. They need to read @MaartenvSmeden 's paper academic.oup.com/jamia/article/…
