George H.W. Bush kept his assets in a blind trust, as did Bill Clinton. Neither Obama nor Biden traded stocks or bonds while in office. 3,700 trades is probably more than all the trades of all the presidents until now. And he is trading stocks that are affected by his decisions. A walking conflict of interest, at the least, and perhaps insider trading. Just as members of Congress should not be able to trade stocks, so too the president. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

The careless decision to reduce our force posture in Europe, along with moves by Pete Hegseth and his political henchmen to force out some of our finest general officers is amateur hour at best and deadly at worst.
Hegseth continues to surprise and disrespect our greatest allies and some of our best military professionals with impulsive decisions not grounded in reality or good judgment. If the rumors are true that Hegseth is trying to sideline General Chris Donahue, one of our nation’s finest warfighters, by downgrading U.S. Army Europe-Africa to a 3-star command, he is taking another step down a dangerous path. A step that is not in the best interests of our nation or our servicemembers.
General Donahue has dedicated his entire career to upholding the high standards and warrior ethos that Hegseth claims he is restoring to our ranks. Gen. Donahue has led Soldiers at all levels in Airborne (including Ft. Bragg’s 82nd) and Mechanized units, the 75th Ranger Regiment, and our most prestigious special operation units. He deployed over 20 times in support of Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, New Dawn, Inherent Resolve, Atlantic Resolve, Freedom’s Sentinel, European Assure, Deter and Reinforce, and in support of the Sudan crisis.
Hegseth would do well to surround himself with more patriots like General Donahue and to get his henchmen, who are not qualified to carry Donahue's bag, out of the Pentagon. Keep your word, Mr. Secretary: choose meritocracy over your mediocre yes-men.

By far the most embarrassing thing about this is that the hedge fund guy was using the MOST CRINGE website on the entire Internet for milf sex 😬

When I was born, Georgia’s Senator was an arch segregationist. Now I sit in that seat.

What historical fact sounds fake but is true?

@DailyMail British politics is funny. Someone can win a random parliamentary seat and suddenly be put in charge of a department requiring expertise they clearly don’t have. It’s amazing the system has lasted this long.

It's funny that you consider it an insult to call someone mouth-breathing, given what orifice you respirate from.
Steven Cheung@StevenCheung47
You have no idea what you’re talking about you slope-brained, mouth breathing moron. Stop calling yourself an expert in anything, aside from sucking. Anyone that hires you (not many!) should get an immediate refund and payment for wasting their time.

@TakoTreba @NowThatHappened @Airbnb Especially when traveling to a different country from yours, it borders on recklessness to use Airbnb rather than a hotel.
English

@NowThatHappened @Airbnb Fully agree!! We had wonderful stay in the hotel and I booked it over booking..com

On Sunday evening, I had the worst experience I’ve ever had with @Airbnb.
A few hours before arriving in Hamburg for OMR, a conference that brings more than 70,000 people to the city, my booking was suddenly cancelled.
I immediately contacted customer support, expecting them to help me find another place.
Instead, they told me they couldn’t assist because “Airbnb didn’t cancel your booking, the host did.”
Excuse me?
This happened around 11 PM.
I spent the entire night on calls with customer support and did not sleep at all.
At around 1 AM, things got even worse.
I received a message saying I was no longer allowed to make bookings on Airbnb because my account had been flagged as potentially dangerous.
I honestly couldn’t believe what was happening.
I was traveling with my three-month-old baby. I explained that multiple times. It made no difference.
No meaningful help.
No travel credits.
My account was blocked.
And by the time I arrived in Hamburg, I had to scramble to find a hotel on my own.
The ironic part?
There was no AI involved in this experience. Only humans following scripts and passing me from one person to another.
And, Brian, I genuinely wish I had been dealing with AI instead.
It would have been faster, more logical, and probably far more empathetic than the people I spoke with that night.
What shocked me most was realizing how few real alternatives there are to Airbnb.
At midnight I was completely on my own trying to solve a problem that should never have happened in the first place.
Worst customer experience I’ve had in years.

@benhylak The ChatGPT interface doesn’t work for this. We’ve already tried it.

@ZaidJilani I mean after Trump, it’s hard to make such arguments convincingly. She’ll surely be an improvement to the incumbent.

@RonanFarrow @NewYorker Again, I’m not sure how this is a major news story. CEOs with moral failings are a dime a dozen. If he’s not committed any crime, let the board deal with him if they’re unhappy with his leadership.

This week, in Elon Musk's lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI, the jury saw video of a sworn deposition from Mira Murati, OpenAI's former CTO. Elaborating on her comments in our latest @NewYorker story, she alleged that Altman was not always truthful, gave different executives conflicting information, and pitted them against each other. Texts between Murati and Altman were also entered as evidence.
Over the course of an 18-month investigation, we traced the yearslong history of these claims from Altman's colleagues, and looked at what this tells us about integrity in AI leadership, and how it affects all of us.
Here's some of what we found. And read the full story here: newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…
