I brought this up in 2024, but I think now that there is a lot of talk around drones, especially interceptors now with the US foray into fucking around and finding out drone warfare the hard way with Iran. But I think people are missing the actual important stuff. Wars are and will continue to be fought across all of the frequency domains and for a military to fight along a frontline, they need to be able to integrate and control the entire spectrum as well as deny the opposing force’s ability to operate freely within the domain. The next big step in the war with russia will be which side can build out and employ a cost effective mesh network(and organize/integrate multiple networks along a singular sector) that integrates all the platforms together with communication and coordination and helps bring back maneuverability to ground forces. This should be a main focus of Ukraine as far as spending $ in R&D as well as in the west. Having the ability to employ tech & drones (UGV, fpv, fixed wing, infantry/ground comms, kinetic strike turrets, etc) within one network that allows hop on hop off ability and to operate in a RF degraded or denied environment is key and to be quite honest organized mesh networks within sectors is key.
