👋 Today is your last chance to visit the online exhibition The @_Second_Guess: Body Anxiety in the Age of AI at HeK Basel. The 10th anniversary of the influential online exhibition Body Anxiety, curated in 2015 by Leah Schrager and Jennifer Chan, serves as an occasion for Margaret Murphy, Leah Schrager, and myself to explore body anxiety in the age of AI. In 2025, the exhibition looks back at the history of the relationship between humans and technology, as well as the beginnings of what is known as selfie feminism or networked feminism. It also shows how the fight against censorship on social media has evolved into a fight against deepfakes in the age of AI. Participating artists: Addie Wagenknecht (@wheresaddie), Ana María Caballero (@CaballeroAnaMa) & @MWiederrecht, Anika Meier, @nnHirsch, Ann Hirsch & Maya Man (@mayaonthenet), Anna Ehrenstein, Arvida Byström, Avery Gia Sophie Schramm, Faith 'Aya' Umoh, Bianca Kennedy, @CarlaGannis, @YesClaudiaHart, @ConnieBakshi, @EmiKusano, @Hi_Flynn (by Malpractice), @GretchenAndrew, Gretta Louw, @KikaNicolela, Kira @Xonorika, @laurenleemack, @LeahSchrager, Lynn Hershman Leeson, Margaret Murphy (@margaretonline), Marisa Olson, @martina_menegon, Maya Man, Mel E. Logan & lizvlx (UBERMORGEN), Monika Fleischmann, @nancybursonart, Nicole Ruggiero, OONA (@madebyoona), @operator_______ & Anika Meier, Remi Koebel, Sarah Friend (@isthisanart_), @Sougwen Chung, and UBERMORGEN. ✨ First and foremost, thank you to the artists and my co-curators! And thank you to everyone who made this exhibition what it is and made it possible: Sabine Himmelsbach and her HeK team, Aleksandra Art (@aljaparis) and her Tezos team, @KikaNicolela and her @objktcom team, Liz Haas (UBERMORGEN) and her team at die Angewandte! This exhibition was also an experiment. We wanted to see if it was possible to do an online exhibition as a first step, and then add NFTs as a second step. I think it is possible. With the NFT sales, we will fund the production of the book about the exhibition. Thank you to all the collectors for their enthusiasm and support!

Today’s the final day to view the online exhibition The Second-Guess. Body Anxiety in the Age of AI. Co-curating an institutional exhibition is one of my greatest accomplishments to date. The last three years, I’ve had the chance to learn the ins and outs of curating an exhibition from @postanika. Something that I think this space is slowly starting to understand is that curators are not, in fact, gatekeepers. For this exhibition, we initially intended to keep it to 21 artists—like the 2015 version. Well, we failed miserably and more than doubled our roster. But the list kept getting longer because the context kept evolving. We knew we wanted to show certain artists in dialog with one another to represent the evolution of technology and feminine identity in the last decade. For us, it was important to showcase a non-comprehensive, but considered artistic presentation. And it can always evolve and adapt…Anika and I have, of course, already discussed a showcase for 2035. It is with my deepest gratitude I want to thank the participating artists for trusting our vision as well as our process—our first priority was always the exhibition and creating something all of us are proud of. We didn’t want to put NFTs before something historic. This was not a financial endeavor for us—the curatorial split we receive will be put towards funding the publishing of a catalog later this year. We’re thankful to everyone who has collected NFTs so far and helped us work towards achieving this goal. It’s meant the world to see folks discover and collect works by all of our artists and we hope you’ll continue to find excitement in what we have releasing next. Thank you to @aljaparis and the Tezos team, @KikaNicolela and the @objktcom team—I think I don’t need to explain why it was important for us to release on Tezos and how empowered we’ve felt by the capability of both this blockchain and platform. The show may be closing, but this is just the beginning for us at the @_second_guess.

“AI has the potential for multidimensional visualization: to build the world we want, we need to be informed by data and understand what infrastructures do not correspond to that.” – @xonorika

In the @_second_guess Body Anxiety in the Age of AI, curated by myself, Anika Meier, and Leah Schrager, @xonorika’s Melting Pot explores the idea of the feminist nude (Jenny Wu, 2023) in a work that feels self-determined, raw, and uncanny. Edition of 10 (8 available) 40 XTZ

I've played things a bit close to the chest in this space out of fear of retaliation and a desire to "stay neutral" but this moment in time is beyond the pale. So for the record — I am an out and proud queer person, I'm Jewish, I believe in Trans rights, I believe in a free Palestine, reparations to Black people and Land Back to indigenous people. I think healthcare should be free and the homeless should be housed. Women should have the right to make decisions about their own bodies. I believe in the abolition of the prison system and the billionaire class. I believe that climate change is real and is caused by oligarchical corporate capitalism and the military industrial complex. I believe in compassionate harm reduction for addicts. I believe that nazi's should never know peace. I think money is cool and all but believe there is much more to life than a bag. I believe in crypto's ability to empower artists and marginalized communities but think that many in our industry have largely lost sight of this in recent years. I believe in love, community, kindness, equity, and empathy above all else. I believe in freedom of speech even when I disagree with what's being said. I respect your right to have an opinion even if it doesn't align with my perspective (but that doesn't mean I respect the opinion itself). I've spent thousand of hours fighting for these causes in places you've never known and will continue to do so in ways you may never really understand. I love you, stay safe, stay alive, organize.
