One split-second decision. An entire Walmart gone. A Wisconsin teenager who admitted she set an artificial plant on fire inside a Walmart "to see if it would catch fire" has been sentenced after the blaze caused more than $8.6 million in damage. Prosecutors charged her as an adult with felony arson and criminal damage to property. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, 8 years of probation, and ordered to pay $8.6 million in restitution. It’s a staggering reminder that what feels like a harmless impulse can carry life-changing legal and financial consequences. A few seconds with a lighter became a criminal record, years of court supervision, and a restitution order that could follow her for decades. One decision. One match. A lifetime of consequences.
