@support hey can you fix the text box that you type tweets into being kinda broken now (Firefox 140.8.0esr on Linux, when you do ctrl-a to select text, it breaks the backspace key thereafter, errors in the js console; also other shortcuts like ctrl-c etc break, it's v annoying)
English

@cagedthecactus it's possible, but this ignores opportunity cost. I'm more likely to find a product (or other type of information/idea) that improves my life doing the counterfactual. if I actually valued finding good products highly, I would be reading consumer reports.
English

kind of an insane moment in society where one cannot imagine being advertised a product that will actually improve their life
tess@xsphi
it's funny how basically all advertisement is ugly dead weight on society at best or malicious exploitation at worst, except for an addictive stimulant company promoting extreme danger unrelated to their product, which is cool and pro-social imo
English

@AlecBCHall wait is this true? do they have like, salaried mechanical engineers and welders and shit that go from project to project?
English

The reason this works is because RedBull is an engineering company. Not an advertisement company, not a sports entity, not a drinks company.

@seconds_0 @rmcwhorter99 ok ok, no more games
1. yes, obviously I have some kind of issue with authority
2. put them to death was 100% sarcastic
3. my second idea, while not being exceedingly series, is also not meant to be sarcastic. overton windows are for pussys
English

I understand that you have some kind of issue with authority, and your sarcastic reply here probably seems like something bad that happened to you that you're projecting onto the situation. The reality is that society depends on stopping violent criminals from doing what they want to do. Chastise it all you want. Be sarcastic about it all you want. Rage against the machine all you want. There is no peaceful society when violent criminals get to spend their entire life harming others with zero repercussions.
English

When you study criminal outcomes is that people who commit violent crimes young and get away with it always continue to commit more crimes.
This is 13-15 year olds doing multiple gang-rapes at knife point and filming it.
They will never be model citizens. This is insane.

@seconds_0 @rmcwhorter99 since nobody else is offering an actual good solution, I will:
we should torture them a bunch for retribution/disincentivization, and then use cult tactics to brainwash them into not raping people. teenagers are very susceptible to this sort of thing.
English

@xsphi @rmcwhorter99 Because society is better when serial rapists are not allowed to serial rape. Anarchism is unlivable. Monopoly of force by the state, and just wielding of it, is the only thing stoping vigilantism and pogroms.
English

@seconds_0 @rmcwhorter99 why do you want your political enemies to be able to lock you up for 30 years?
English

@rmcwhorter99 @xsphi It's not squeamishness. I don't like giving state the power that I wouldnt want political enemies of mine to have.
English

@seconds_0 or do you mean lock them up with a bunch of other criminals for years and then dump them on the street as adults with no connections or lawful skills? because I don't think that will go any better
English

@TomWright165389 yes, quite safe and reasonably healthy when uncontaminated and not dosed insanely high ("recreational" use is often insanely high doses, but doesn't have to be!)
English

@princessdawnyan @ZandaLikePanda there's also like, polyamory as some specific lifestyle/culture and there's polyamory as literally just not monogamy. I don't dating someone who doesn't get mad if you sleep around, as a concept, has very many specific or inherent properties. it kinda just depends.
English

@xsphi @ZandaLikePanda I think this is a rational take. I also just think it can enable some predatory behaviour at times, but I acknowledge this isnt something inherent, and rather a possibility
English

@princessdawnyan @ZandaLikePanda fwiw I do know polycules that aren't disasters, but also yeah idk sure it does have more possible ways for things to go wrong. I think monogamy can be an effective strategy for dating while minimizing the chance of anything going wrong.
English

@xsphi @ZandaLikePanda Im not even trying to be over combative or defensive to my personal traumas. I am genuinely just yet to hear of this, and it makes me recognise that maybe there are some conclusions we can draw about polyamory itself
English

@xsphi it already is if you're spiritually pure
