The most advanced technology in the world has progressive views and conservatives’ only takeaway from this is to get mad.

@QiaochuYuan I think it's not that deep. using fake slurs and references to actual despicable things is fun in an edgy way, and they flew a bit too close to the sun

this is semiotically fascinating to me. if you don’t think AI has personhood then surely the real villains here are AI labs? but it would of course be politically radioactive to call for the deaths of AI researchers. so the murderous rage gets displaced onto AI instead, which is simultaneously not-a-person enough that you can get away with fervently wishing for its death in public, yet person enough that “genocide” feels like a meaningful term to apply to it

@LinkofSunshine it's fine but only if you're actually racist. otherwise it's cultural appropriation
English

Call me too woke but I think people should not be referencing *that* 4chan meme in their offline political activism and just be normal

@Favwontmiss do DSM diagnostic criteria even do a good job of delineating the borders between natural categories? I've never gotten that impression
English

@Favwontmiss in which case, what is the issue here? is there actually a significant problem of people harmfully misunderstanding themselves or hurting themselves with therapies or other strategies because of the category they perceive themselves in?
English

@Favwontmiss to me it seems that this would generally happen because someone feels connected to the category in ways the diagnostic criteria don't capture and/or benefits from the same things as people in the category
English

@Favwontmiss why would someone self-diagnose when they do not fit the diagnostic criteria? not doubting this, I'm just wondering what motivation would cause this thing you are trying to prevent?
English

@xsphi People probably don't, on the whole, have a "solution" to how to finally stamp out the last vestiges of normal healthy desires, no.
