2027 is the year to prove to WOTC that real magic is worth making by the way. They made a conscious shift back to "Classic Magic" with these sets (OK, maybe not Kamigawa Genesis Ikoriagelion, but you get the point). Go to locals, play in your prerelease. Support good art.

@ScarletNoct I mean it’s Kaiju invading Neo Tokyo and being fought off by mecha, and the font choice on Titanbreach is reminiscent of the typeface on the Rebuild posters and key art. Mostly it was just a joke to fit in that dumb wordplay though

@FreeWarfare horrendous take. Gavin gave us Battlebond and countless exceptional designs. While mistakes are made (a little more than in the past; perhaps) he is still one of the best working game designers in the tabletop space.

It's not all lore deep cuts, though. Some are just cute like Tolabow! Tolabow also has Rulebreaker! This new mechanic appears on eight cards in the set and allows for some wild changes to your deck. All of these cards were designed alongside the Commander format panel team.

@xtracombatphase I'm absolutely going to at least one prerelease for each of the three sets they announced, they're all so fucking cool. I might buy a box of each, as well, depending on the mechanics and if I also want any commander products

@_nightwalk to each their own. While I have an unabashed love for original Kamigawa block I understand that not everyone minored in Japanese Literature in undergrad. NEO was a fun imagining of what if 90s sci-fi tokyo was a magic plane.

@ClownFleshHonks The approach is new. Magic Cons last year were so heavily inundated with UB that it was a nightmare. They announced the 50/50 split to a room of silence. Doomering is not the solution, celebrate the good stuff.

I kind of respect Wizards' restraint in focusing on real magic sets at MagicCon. It feels like Magic Cons should be a celebrating FOR the enfranchised players who are attending. the 90% of players who don't know what a planeswalker is or whatever aren't there. UB sells itself.

@AikeSigne Buy the in universe product. Lie on the market research surveys so that you can tell them why you DIDN'T buy the UB stuff. Drive conversations online. We aren't going to make UB go away but we can minimize its presence by making real magic more profitable than it is now.

I don't know what the future of Magic looks like. I wish I knew how best to like show my support to Wizards while also unequivocably renouncing Hasbro and Disney in the process. Gods the in-universe stuff is so nice to see

@tart_afterdark TMNT and Marvel do not fit the visual aesthetic language that Magic has established over 30 years is probably a better way to phrase it, art being subjectve. Although I'd say that some of the Turtles art straight up does not meet what I would consider quality standards.
