@hopsoft If your server responds with anything other a machine-code pulses through a current loop, you’re using SSR. (Also get off my lawn you damn kids)

If your server responds to requests with a formatted string… even a JSON string, guess what? You’re using server side rendering. Sometimes folks like to add an extra step to transform that string into a different string on the client.

@bressain Final unsolicited comment, promise: we need a term for people who are legal joined to each other because they’ve co-signed for the same mortgage.

Old man rant: When did spouse/wife/husband/significant other become simply "partner"? I get it if people aren't married but I find married folks using "partner" as well. Is spouse/wife/husband/SO offensive now or what?

@kyleshevlin @bressain Also, need to note I’m using “gender” there in a weird way. What I mean specifically is social perception of the participants irrespective of biology, since we’re talking about socio/legal constructs here.

@kyleshevlin @bressain Of course, it’s a very small sample size (like 4?), not deliberate chosen, and this was only in the mid-west and western US states so it’s more of a “huh interesting” thing than “ooh proof!” thing.

@kyleshevlin @bressain My unscientific experience, it depends on audience: in the before-time I’d go to dev conferences, use a given term exclusively for my relationship, note response. Partner: was assumed I have children but not married, no gender assumed. Spouse: was assumed a same-gender marriage.

I see and use this pattern all the time with Ruby. I wonder if there’s a shortcut? If not, perhaps something like this?

@JamesDavisMakes @dajobe Use steganography to hide your REAL message as spaces within your Slack messages? Although that makes your messages rather long, and you’ll have keep telling everyone your spacebar is sticky.

@dajobe Slack is pretty easy to monitor as an admin. That's why creating separate Slack or Discord servers as a safe space away from the corporate overlords is usually the way to go. *looks at past problematic employers* … uh, hypothetically of course… sure.

@mclaughj I’m still working on/with that same app you worked on around 2015, I saw your name in the source just a few days ago and it made me smile. Building something you can be proud of is good, but having that thing be something people use because they WANT to is the best feeling ever.

I love building software on macOS. In 2012, my dad asked me what I was looking for in a job after graduating college. I responded that I wanted to work on a Mac. A decade later, I’ve built applications and websites used by millions daily all developed on Macs. I still love it.

@robkellas I was rereading my old journals from that time and I have lots a paragraphs that start “if I’m ever going to write a book about this one day, I’d better talk about…”, so I must have had it in mind

@elforesto Simple rule: if it’s an app you would be embarrassed to have show up in an management-meeting-screen-share, don’t install it on your work machine.

I got up at 8am on a Sunday to Watch @Lionesses battle @DFB_Frauen, so this had better be good! I’m torn on who to cheer for, but since my spouse has a farm in Bedfordshire named after their family I think I’ll have to be behind @Lionesses! #WEURO2022

@NeniaCampbell Quizilla existed because I like making things, and helping other people be creative is the part of that site I enjoyed the most.

@xunker Hi! I saw on Wikipedia that you were the creator of Quizilla and I just wanted to say how much joy that site brought me as a kid. I spent hours on there, and it started me on the path to becoming a published author. So thank you so much for creating it. I loved that site.
