Scifi being taken over by "cautionary tales" is problematic... If there's no positive vision of the future, people will just emulate negative ones even if the author "intends" it opposite. Sorry that it's not cool & intellectual to write a positive story, but it's essential.

SSTO spaceplanes have incredible aura and at some level it makes me sad that they don't make sense as launch vehicles from Earth.

@coryfromphilly It's not challenging at all as a physical problem*: Build a bunch of stuff densely in a zone or a line along with transit infrastructure and people will take transit. Whether that zone is in Anaheim specifically is unimportant. The challenge is basically 100% political.

I dont know how you fix America's dependence on car infrastructure because of how housing and jobs are located. Driving around Anaheim made me wonder how you could ever do transit here. There's not enough density to justify transit, really.
