Neither could it match the attention abd focus of the world. Club football is huge on a localised level. It divides as much as it unites. This is a whole other level if attention and significance tgat ckub football would love to have. This is huge on a wholel.

World Cup final day. No bigger match in this, or any other sport. For all the money and dominance of the club game, the quality of the best club sides etc, that could never hope to match the significance of a World Cup final.

The Euro 84 final seems to rarely be mentioned when France play Spain. I remember very clearly watching it live. Funniest tournament ever on British TV. No games on ITV. BBC with just two matches live - West Germany v Spain and the final.
