At #ARFSD12, Pan African Climate Justice Alliance took a bold stand as Eugene Nforngwa @Eugene_Nforngwa challenged Africa to rethink its just transition pathway. In a powerful side event by Akina Mama wa Afrika, ACPC, TJNA & partners, under the theme “Moving beyond extractivism to care-centered approaches to Africa’s just energy transitions,” the discussion challenged narrow energy narratives, linking just transition to taxation, care economy, social sectors & equitable development models. Eugene highlighted Africa’s need to strengthen its engagement within the UNFCCC by advancing bold, justice-driven proposals anchored in trade, industrialization, technology & a new economy. “Energy access must be a credibility test for COP32… it must support Africa’s full development from industrialization to clean cooking.” Africa’s transition must work for Africa. Period. #ClimateJustice #JustTransition #EnergyAccess #ARFSD12

Happy Independence Day, Sierra Leone. 🇸🇱 Today we celebrate freedom. But free to breathe… or free to choke? Our land is drowning in plastic. 5 minutes of use. 500 years of damage. This isn’t art. It’s a mirror. We didn’t start this alone. But we can end it. Together.

On World Mother Earth Day, we don’t just stand together—we act together. Our planet is calling, and this is our moment to respond—not tomorrow, not later, but now. Today, we commit: to reduce waste, to protect our environment, to hold leaders accountable, and to inspire others.

A rich and timely discussion at #PACJA Webinar 5 on the Road to COP31–32 The session unpacked what a Just Transition means for Africa in the face of persistent energy poverty, emphasizing the need to align climate action with development priorities. Conversations explored the political economy of energy transitions, including how geopolitics, global finance, and power dynamics continue to shape Africa’s options. Speakers highlighted the importance of a carefully sequenced transition that safeguards energy security and industrial growth, while also addressing the continent’s need for expanded energy access. The role of critical minerals, value addition, and regional cooperation in building resilient economies was also emphasized. Financing gaps, limited access to technology, and dependence on external capital remain major barriers, reinforcing the need for stronger domestic resource mobilization and African-led solutions.

Today in Accra 🇬🇭, a three-day strategy meeting has commenced, bringing together UNFCCC National Focal Points, African Lead Coordinators & partners to consolidate and strengthen the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) common position ahead of #COP31 and #COP32. Geared towards reinforcing the AGN, this convening is critical to sharpen Africa’s priorities, align strategy, and strengthen coordination across the continent’s negotiation structure, especially as Africa prepares to host #COP32. It also provides a platform to engage partners on technical, political & financial support for Africa’s climate agenda. #PACJA #ClimateJustice #AGN #UNFCCC #AfricaRising

Africa must move from defending positions to shaping outcomes. At a high-level engagement in Accra, Dr. @ABNJAMNSHI, delivered a powerful call for Africa to strategically reset its climate diplomacy ahead of COP31 and COP32. He emphasised that Africa cannot continue negotiating within systems that fail to match responsibility with action, especially when over 630 million Africans still lack access to electricity and climate impacts continue to erode development gains. The message was clear. Africa has the numbers, the moral argument, and the resources. What is needed now is coordination, political clarity, and leverage. As we prepare for the next phase of global climate negotiations, the continent must prioritise: • Recognition of energy access as a climate goal • Scaled investment in smallholder agricultural adaptation • Clear and accountable climate finance • Stronger alliances to advance Africa’s strategic interests The road to COP32 on African soil begins now. @PACJA1 @AfricaAAI @yaf_africa @_AfricanUnion @TheAfricanGrou1 @AfDB_Group #ClimateAction #AdaptationFinance #COP31 #AfricaNegotiates
