Imagine expecting an artist to buy back his own work because some people listed it lower. Once art is sold, the market decides the rest. No one asked Basquiat to buy back paintings when collectors underpriced them. Floor prices don’t reflect the worth of the artist, only the impatience of the market. People lose faith the moment the artist stops behaving how they want. They forget artists are supposed to be unpredictable, even crazy. They want them to clap on command. That mindset exposes how many “collectors” were never actually collecting, they were trading and blaming the artist for a market correction. The artists who don’t manipulate prices end up with the real credibility because their reputation rests on creation, not maintenance.
