CM Punk stayed silent till he heard a better wrestler than him.
Punk stopped at Eddie Guerrero.

neutral question for @Mets fans - what's your review of Nolan McLean's start tonight? The talent and stuff are obvious. The experience pitching on this big of a stage is so valuable for him. But how did he do?
English

@AlbaneseLaura @athletelogos I actually thought they were trying really hard for an anti-jinx. But they’ve been bad.

@zsitter @mindgonerampant @jaycaspiankang I agree totally. It’s just that if everyone else is constantly playing and developing the bar for competence keeps rising. That’s the pressure.
English

@yeahhiga @mindgonerampant @jaycaspiankang My general approach to sports w/my kids is that it's good for them to get to a basic level of competence so that they can have fun with other kids & feel confident. Anything beyond that is superfluous unless they've got a burning passion to do it.
English

the book I've got coming out soon is about how so much of child raising for the middle classes is built off this model, how this leads to alienation and loss of community (and doesn't produce better athletes, mathematicians, or anything). Stay tuned.
Coach Switala@CoachSwit
Travel baseball has turned into: Pay tons of money to play. Pay to travel. Pay to stay. Pay to watch your own kid. And somehow… this became normal. Will it ever change or just get worse?
English

@bellsforstacy @jaycaspiankang This is a large part of it, at least for me, and something that I’ve struggled with the entire time my son has played. I already lived that life as a kid and coach in my 20s before kids. When I think about the time commitments, not even deep down, I don’t want it again.
English

@jaycaspiankang @yeahhiga Because they won’t volunteer to coach. You can still do rec league. But they need coaches. And parents will pay if it means they don’t have to do anything.
English

@zsitter @mindgonerampant @jaycaspiankang Just general skill level. I have no illusions of my son’s talent. But it’s that pressure as mentioned above of am I doing enough? Could he be better with more work?
English

@yeahhiga @mindgonerampant @jaycaspiankang Fall behind in what? I mean, if you're gunning for scholarships, I get it, but if it's just a question of being the 15th- or the 29th-best soccer player in their grade, then....?
English

@cSchaez @jaycaspiankang It does, but they’ve had to change some to survive. Outside of it, youth baseball has shifted to travel teams that often sign up for leagues intact and move upwards together, looking for competition or tournaments.
English

@jaycaspiankang @yeahhiga Does little league no longer exist?
English

@jaycaspiankang By the way, caught you with Foxworth a while back—was a good convo! I appreciate your work.
English

@jaycaspiankang …but anyone can play—all they have to do is pay? And everyone just sort of went along with it. Because outside of the legacy orgs like LL or Babe Ruth, what is the pull for those tourneys? Just the ideas of experience and exposure…at 10U. Lololol
English

@mindgonerampant @jaycaspiankang It for sure has a “keeping up with the Joneses” peer pressure element. My kid is just community league but it moves year round now. All the guys I coach with remember playing seasonally, a few months a year. But it’s the same thing—will my kid fall behind if he takes summer off?
English

@jaycaspiankang it's crazy out there. my wife and i just said house leagues and a few camps until high school. but there is some guilt we're not doing enough.
English

@SamuelCasinha @katatatat__ Same thing. If you keep going from A to B but dont go from B to A. Eventually all the carts from A will end up at B. No matter how many. The problem here is you MUST go from A to B then B to A consecutively to maintain the cart availability.

If you weren’t 1000000% sure these are local boys, wait until the end.

Not hard! Take the event as seriously as possible. Dero deserves credit for recruiting and passion but fouling the bed yesterday was an indictment.
John Perrotto@JPerrotto
I know it's easy to pile on Mark DeRosa, who is a good baseball man, but the USA needs someone with managerial experience running the team in future WBCs. Think Jim Leyland, 2017.

@yeahhiga @MikeOxlong_46n2 @rBillSimmonsPod I think so but I also get the feeling that he actually likes Wright and wants Wright to like him back so he’s able to make the holding himself back feel more natural to listeners.
Nick’s like HoneymoonHarden rn.
