❓The purpose of the survey is to supply systematic, comprehensive information on the business community’s experiences to elected officials, the media, and the public. Questions center on overall business climates, barriers to growth, and interactions with government.

@maustermuhle Mobile lounge is a true euphemism. Also I associate America with mobile lounges and the smell of cinnamon from Cinnabon. The first two things that I experienced when I arrived in the US in 1995.

Worst things about Dulles: 1) Location. 2) These mobile lounges. 3) Design. (Go ahead, fight me on this.)

BLS jut released employment data for Feb 2024. I made a chart of total non-farm and private sector jobs in DC for the last two years. It is a flatline!

@mattyglesias @dccrimefacts Totally. I began some of this work looking at how a land value tax would work in ward 3 given zoning restrictions. More a stick than a carrot. Will think more about this. What I know is ward 6 has three times the density as ward 3 and no one says “wow, Capitol Hill is a dump.”

@yesimsy @dccrimefacts That's one thing to look at, yeah. Or what is the cost of excluding multifamily homes from almost all of ward three.

I’ve never been able to get people interested in this but I think “change regulations to facilitate more market rate construction so you get more tax revenue and can fund government services” is an underrated idea.

@dccrimefacts @FeverPotomac Low unemployment is a bit tricky as a proxy for a strong economy, because, right now, in D.C. and the Washington metro, it is driven not by increased employment, but decreased workforce participation. We lost jobs. But we lost more people from the labor force.

@FeverPotomac This is an important question. What's unique about DC includes our fragmented & Federally dominated justice system (USAO, CSOSA & Courts), broken crime lab & the fact that our economy has gotten worse while nationwide/regional unemployment is down.
