@chaitinsgoose @yhousegone It could just as easily be reframed as this. Vote Purple you live. Vote Green you die unless Green gets over 50%.

i realized framing impacts me too there is an election. if candidate A wins, nothing happens. if candidate B wins, he kills all those who voted A. who do you vote for?

@oqayowoqwq So the blue button puts you in the category of "people who will be killed if too many people press red". It does do something.

At the end of the experiment, nobody dies and everyone who pressed the red button will be marked.

It's been said before, but bears repeating. If you're a UK citizen and live in Dubai/Spain/ anywhere not the UK, then you're not an "expat". You're an immigrant. Fucking double standard Daily Mail cunts.

@John_Cyrano blue does not "ensure" everyone survives. It adds 1 to the 4 billion presses required for everyone to survive.

This is why the people who keep rephrasing the wording of the test are cheating. Your choice comes down to your focus when you read it--are you focused on "how do I survive?" or "how do I ensure everyone survives?" Your choice depends on which you ask yourself.

i don’t understand why anybody would choose the red button. asking genuinely, if you chose it - why? if 50%+ choose blue, everyone lives. if less than 50% choose red, only those who chose red live. why are you willing to sacrifice half of those people?

@CRB19633892 @wokenessucks Still doesn't make sense. Reds retain the option to kill themselves after the 5 or 10% blue die-off if the world is really that bad. Red all day.

Well, maybe you also aren’t taking into consideration the actual effect of THAT many people dying if red wins. Is it even suicide if your goal is trying to increase the chance to save society? Like we’re not talking about “some” people we’re talking potentially billions and if not billions 100s of millions of people. The ramifications of that would destroy society. You’re right, in a real world situation it’s more likely red will win but in a simulation are you really not able to see how much better it is for people to collectively try to achieve above 50% blue? Like is it really that hard to see that a majority blue is the absolute best case scenario? And if that’s the case then why not go for blue? Fear. Red is a fear based decision masquerading as “common sense” and “individualism”. It’s fear. It’s Pontius Pilate.

The problem with the red button/blue button thing is that blue button people still live with this filter over their eyes that distorts reality. They lack the self-awareness to realize that if they were actually in that situation in real life, they’d push the red button too. That’s exactly why they get so mad and take it personally when we don’t see it their way. They call us immoral and evil. But we see the world realistically. They don’t. When you factor in the other 8 billion people on Earth and the raw fear of possibly dying, there’s zero chance 51% hit the blue button. 95–98% of people would take the guaranteed safe option and choose red. We know this because we deal in reality, not fantasy. For us red-button people, pushing blue is suicide. Is it sad that out of 8 billion some will inevitably hit blue and die? Yes. But if blue is suicide, I’m still hitting red. The vast majority of blue button people lack the self-awareness to know how they’d actually react under pressure. They’re the morons who die first in horror movies.
MrBeast@MrBeast

Everyone on earth takes a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press? BE HONEST.

@scorpian7103 @BANDIT_FL @chaitinsgoose On sober reading I think you're right, outcomes are same, A/Blue>50, all live, B/Red>50, blue die. Red live either way. So the new bit is the moral idea of "Party B are evil, why would you vote for a group who'd do such a thing, they would be terrible rulers". B still correct tho

@BANDIT_FL @chaitinsgoose @yhousegone actually its the same question with the same results, its just switches who is presented as passive and active. saying pressing Red and voting B will both not effect said presser/voter and pressing blue/voting A still requires a 50% majority to not die.

@candlecav But as we've learned as the debate progressed, blue voters are going to hunt and kill any red voter they find or suspect afterwards. DOES THAT CHANGE YOUR VOTE, BIGOT?

Okay, I've gone round-and-round on this, and I'm still a Red-button voter, and here's why. The situation is this: you are suddenly in a booth, with the buttons in front of you. You know all 8.3 billion people on earth are voting. You know at least some will vote each way, including children and mental incompetents for whom it's basically a toss-up. You have no idea what the outcome will be. All you can do is make a prediction based on what you know of human nature. My prediction, based on what little I know of human nature, is a majority-Red vote. This is because most ordinary people, faced with the dilemma, will see it simply as A - I will definitely live or B - 50/50 chance I die. The kind of complex moral calculation you have to make to see the argument behind a Blue vote is simply not going to occur to or persuade the *majority* of *ordinary* people, globally. Now, if I am *right* about human nature, then a Blue vote, for me, is simply suicide. I die, I save nobody, and whoever of my family is left alive have to face the new world without me. But if I am *wrong* about human nature, then the Blue vote gets the majority, and nobody dies, including me. So for me, in that moment, behind that veil of ignorance, knowing that my ONE vote will NOT be the deciding one among countless millions, the ONLY sensible choice - is Red.

Not to be a fatalist or a doom and gloomer As a father of 2 raising kids in 2026, I personally feel like it would be insane to have kids these days The inmates have truly taken over the asylum and the mechanisms for checks and balances are captured What do you think?
