Our field fellow, Agnieszka Ilwicka-Karuna, recently recorded a three-hour #oralhistory #interview with Mira Żelechower-Aleksiun. Mira is renowned artist and child survivor of the Holocaust, born in 1941 in Russia, and lived her life since WWII in #Wrocław, Poland. #Jewishart

Radical activist Clara Lemlich Shavelson contributed to several labor and justice movements throughout her life. bit.ly/46kKm8P She worked for women's suffrage, led kosher meat price boycotts of 1917 and rent strikes of 1919. She died #ThisWeekInHistory in 1982.

This month of #Midsummer we explore #Yiddishstories from #Helsinki! The 1st Jews in Finland after 1827 were soldiers of the Russian army, including Cantonists enlisted young for the infamous 25-yr draft. Today, many of the Jews in Helsinki feel connected to #Yiddish.
