Our field fellow, Agnieszka Ilwicka-Karuna, recently recorded a three-hour #oralhistory #interview with Mira Żelechower-Aleksiun. Mira is renowned artist and child survivor of the Holocaust, born in 1941 in Russia, and lived her life since WWII in #Wrocław, Poland. #Jewishart

Writer Zevi Ghivelder gives a mini lesson on #JewishHistory of #Brazil. While there are traces of people with Jewish heritage living in the Americas earlier, it was with Dutch colonizers in the mid-17th century that the first openly Jewish settlers came to the continent.

She worked for women's suffrage, led kosher meat price boycotts of 1917 and rent strikes of 1919. She died #ThisWeekInHistory in 1982.

This month of #Midsummer we explore #Yiddishstories from #Helsinki! The 1st Jews in Finland after 1827 were soldiers of the Russian army, including Cantonists enlisted young for the infamous 25-yr draft. Today, many of the Jews in Helsinki feel connected to #Yiddish.
