@zhari3_ also, i stopped caring ab grades, exams, GPA bc honestly i found my priorities just doesnt line up w grad school. i wanted to move on w my life and i didnt find putting a pause on travel&health to be worth my time. HOWEVER i will always encourage to do it bc a once in a lifetime

update: i left and got a damn good salary job as a chemist. life is too short to not be living life the way u want. if academia worked for u, im proud of u. if it didnt, im proud of u. HAPPY NEW YEAR

@zhari3_ ultimately, i wasnt supported by the right PIs w ridiculous expectations! i knew that if i didnt get out, it would eat me up ALIVE. fr i wouldnt have made it out. so i started applying for jobs as i was taking finals. got lucky and landed 1 in 2 weeks, start to finish.

@zhari3_ the main thing i wish i did was looking for PIs that reflect not only my interests but also me. do they have non yt students? are they doing outreach? this would be an indicator of how well they would be able to support me during this big adjustment period as a 1st year. its slim

@yikelis Just remember that life is not about pleasure or just what you like.

and that feelings is overwhelming and exhausting when u know u are not but still consumed by feeling LIKE an imposter. leaving lifted that burden immediately

@szspagna it wasnt worth it for me to master out, just being honest!

@yikelis Good old masters'ing out? Most people I know who did it got far better pay than the PhD candidates grinding in academia.

one last thing, grad school sucked the life out of me and i wasnt willing to compromise that. if u want to leave ur job, grad school, anything tbh, just do it. its scary but take it one step at a time. and if u love it, im glad it worked for u. cheers to a new year(:

i tried it and i did not FAIL at it. i just was incredibly unhappy, anxious, and sleep-deprived. another thing...everyones out of touch, i have nothing in common w ANYONE. lastly, grad school was what was expected of me. fuck THAT!

update: i left and got a damn good salary job as a chemist. idc about exams, grades, GPA, the politics and rules. going to grad school was the most "normal" thing ive done but...im not that the system didn't support me or even want me despite how hard i tried to make it work.
