During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Russia had nuclear armed submarines off the coast of Cuba and was ready to strike in case a war went off. The U.S. dropped “depth charges” to try and expose these submarines and bring them to the surface. One problem, the guys in the Soviet submarine thought the nuclear war had already started based on the “depth charges” and were ready to strike. Soviet protocol was that they needed agreement from the 3 leaders on board to approve the strike. They could not contact anyone from the USSR at that depth so they were given full autonomy. 2 leaders approved the strike, Arkhipov opposed, believing correctly it was just “depth charges” going off…. The nuclear strike was avoided, and all thanks to one man that is mostly forgotten by history…. The lesson there is that at the end of the day orders have to be carried out by people… pray that orders and responsibility fall down to men who have the sense to use that authority wisely and understand the gravity of the situation they are in…

Trump is right: NATO is a paper tiger at this point. It became woke a while ago so it wouldn't help us much *if* Russia invaded Poland.

🇺🇸🇦🇫 US soldier gets annoyed by Afghan army for not fighting … in a literal gunfight. Yeah, seeing this, it was obvious the afghan army would collapse in a day when the US army pulled out and the Taliban come.

🇺🇸🇮🇷 Trump said "air superiority." He didn't say "air supremacy." That word choice matters more than you think. These are two very different military classifications. Air superiority means you have the advantage and can operate without major interference, but the enemy can still fight back. Air supremacy means the enemy has essentially zero ability to contest the skies. The U.S. has air superiority over Iran. It can conduct strikes, fly rescue missions, and operate across the country. But Iran shot down an F-15E, hit an A-10, struck two rescue helicopters, and forced the destruction of two MC-130s and two Little Birds in a single weekend. That's not supremacy. That's contested airspace where operations succeed but come with real cost. Trump was careful with his language in the rescue announcement. He said "air dominance and superiority," not supremacy. Supremacy is what the U.S. had over Venezuela. Aircraft moved freely because there was nothing left to contest them. Over Iran, every sortie still carries risk. The rescue proved that American forces can operate deep inside Iran and win. It also proved that winning comes with a price tag of downed jets, damaged helicopters, and $200 million in aircraft destroyed on the ground. Air superiority means you can fly. It doesn't mean you fly for free. Source: WSJ / MilNet

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇷 Iran says it just shot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone over Qeshm Island. Sitting right at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, the exact chokepoint the whole war is being fought over.

NEW: The CIA was able to locate and confirm it was the U.S. crew member on Saturday morning, I'm told by a senior U.S. official. There was concern that despite the beacon signal, it was an Iranian trap. "There was a lot at stake here," the official told me. The CIA informed all relevant parties, including the Secretary of War, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and ultimately the President. "Within 8 hours, we had planes in motion. Within almost 12 hours we were on the ground in Iran," the official added.

Never underestimate the institutional desire of the US military to pay any price to avoid our people from being taken POW. The communists and their treatment of American POWs in Korea and Vietnam burned that into our psyche ... and we know too well what most of the rest of the world would do should they capture an American airman. We would happily blow up squadrons of our own aircraft just to get one person home. Worth every penny. "It has been reported that the two C-130s were demolished in place as they were incapable of departing, with three more aircraft coming in and extracting the special operations force. Amongst this wreckage appears to be two burned-out wrecks of MH-6/AH-6 Little Birds of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, better known as the Night Stalkers." twz.com/air/night-stal…

Details about the rescue op for the U.S. Weapon Systems Officer, via a U.S. military official: "The mountain top area on the left is where the WSO was hiding (he ejected 5ish miles northwest of there). The right area is the makeshift landing strip where they landed 2 C-130s and had 4 MH-6 Little Birds. "One Little Bird flew to that mountain top area and rescued the WSO and brought him back to the landing strip. And of course the two C-130s' nose gears got stuck in the dirt. So after a few hours they had to bring in three AFSOC Dash-8s to fly out the rescued WSO and the 100 or so personnel involved in the op." 1/2
