Multiple discs were done during previous generations out of necessity. Now, 97% buy digital, not including PC.
Makes more sense to cut their losses on the 3% than print 3+ discs and packaging.

@yosutebitoo That's false. Blu-Ray game discs for PS5 can be up to 100GB in size. There are PS5 discs that are 100GB, but 66GB is more usual.
PS3/PS4 were limited to 50GB. I don't know anything about Xbox.

The fight over "physical games" has already been lost. Nothing you say or do will make it possible to fit a full 200GB game on a physical consumer-grade optical disc.

The fight for physical games could have been won maybe 15 years ago. Too many people bought games and DLC on the eShop, PS Store, etc.
The only battle that matters right now for video games is DRM, but that frontier is probably doomed too.

GTA V for Xbox 360 shipped on two discs, one of which was just for a one-time install i.e. it wasn't a disc-swapping experience.

@yosutebitoo People never think of the logistics of stuff like that. One person suggested putting games on self-contained SSD cards. That wouldn't work with today's prices for SSDs. Even if we used old prices, it would cost them way more than discs for little benefit.

Do people not understand that a Blu-Ray disc can only hold a maximum of 50 GB? RDR2 used two discs because it was only 90 GB at launch (before updates).
GTA 6 would require a minimum of five discs to install lmao.

@yosutebitoo Do you understand how discs work now? Nowadays you download a “copy” of the game by putting the disc in lol, and (for most games) it works offline. Master Chief Collection is like 110 GB, I play it via disc.
