CONDemnation
KZC/SIP/PR/046 | Date: 07 April 2026
The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) strongly condemns the tragic bomb attack at Tronglaobi, which resulted in the loss of two innocent children. Such inhumane violence is unacceptable and must be unequivocally denounced.
We also condemn the subsequent burning of three petroleum trucks at Moirang Oil Pump Station. These supplies were meant for the people of Churachandpur and had no connection to the incident.
Targeting essential goods and disrupting livelihoods only deepens public suffering and hardship.
KZC firmly rejects the baseless allegations being circulated against the Kuki-Zo community. With buffer zones strictly guarded by security forces, it is highly implausible for any Kuki-Zo individual to infiltrate and carry out such an attack within Meitei localities. We strongly condemn attempts to tarnish the image of our community without any evidence.
The Kuki-Zo people have never supported violence against women and children. Such acts go against our values and traditions. We reiterate our firm condemnation of the killing of innocent children. Furthermore, the Kuki-Zo community has no intention of disturbing Meitei habitations. Our concerns arise only when buffer zones are violated.
These incidents appear to be a calculated attempt to reignite ethnic tensions in Manipur. We urge the media and all responsible citizens to exercise restraint, verify facts, and refrain from spreading misinformation or divisive narratives.

2 Babies Killed in Bomb Attack by Chin Kuki Terrorists.
Tragedy strikes Moirang Tronglaobi Kuki militants' bomb attack on a civilian house claims the lives of two children; the area is on high alert as authorities rush to respond.
God knows when @PMOIndia @AmitShah will decide to eliminate these parasites.
Dear @YKhemchandSingh Terrorists needs to be eliminated. Your "Trust Deficit" will never happen as long these Terrorists continue to target Meitei Civilians and kill our women and children, at will. You should not kneel down before terrorists in the name of building Trust Deficit.
This has been a pattern and operating model for Chin Kuki Terrorists.
Whenever there is semblance of normalcy, these Terrorists attack/abduct/kill civilians, usually the soft target women, children, babies, farmers or villagers for maximum damage. They seem to have a free run to kill civilians as @adgpi @official_dgar @manipur_police have repeatedly and miserably failed to protect Meitei Civilians. This was the key reason, our youths were forced to pick up arms to defend themselves as our Security Forces were on freeze mode.

Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga)-Kuki Clash Erupts in Ukhrul, Firing Continues
Songpi: April 6, 2026
Suspected Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga) militants of NSCN-IM opened fire in the Litan Kuki area of Ukhrul district on April 5, 2026, around 6 pm. Around 10 rounds were fired towards Mongkot Chephu Kuki village, prompting security forces to monitor the situation and take necessary measures.
Kuki village volunteers retaliated, and intermittent firing continued between the Kuki volunteers and Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga) NSCN-IM militants at Mongkot, Thoyee, Sharkapung, and Shangkai villages.
The incident follows previous clashes between Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga) and Kuki communities in Ukhrul, with houses and government quarters torched. Local authorities have imposed curfews and deployed security forces to restore order. The situation remains tense, with concerns over civilian safety and regional stability.

The Kuki History and the Kuki Nation
Written by: Ms. Kimneihoi Haokip, Kuki human rights activist
Introduction
The name 'Kuki' dates back to the 6th-8th century in ancient texts like the Mahabharata and Tripura Rajmala (Royal Chronicle), highlighting the rich heritage and long-standing presence of the Kuki people. In the 16th-17th century, Kuki history was recorded by Bengali and British writers, providing early colonial accounts of the Kuki identity. Later, in 1904, the British mapped Kukiland (Kuki independent hill country) and recognised it, solidifying Kuki territory in historical records.
The Kuki Revolt (1860-1861)
The Kuki Revolt (1860-1861) was a major uprising led by Ratan Pooya against the British and Tripura state. Increased taxes on hill tribes, drought, and debt led to widespread discontent. Kukis, aided by disaffected Tripura royals and Riang subjects, attacked Tripura and British territories, looting villages and killing 185 people. British forces, led by Captain Raban, retaliated, destroying Kuki villages. The revolt ended with the British striking a deal with Ratan Pooya in 1862, offering him ₹400 annually to maintain peace. Agreements were also made with other Kuki chiefs. The revolt highlighted the weak governance of Tripura and led to British intervention in border security.
The Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919)
The Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919) was a significant uprising by the Kuki people in Northeast India (Manipur/Burma frontier) against British colonial rule. Sparked by forced labor (Pothang system) for WWI, heavy taxation, and British interference in traditional leadership, the war involved fierce battles, guerrilla warfare, and heavy losses on both sides. Kuki fighters resisted British forces (including Indian soldiers) from March 1917 to May 1919. Often termed the "Kuki Rebellion", the war is seen as a struggle for freedom, self-determination, and dignity - a glorious chapter of resistance despite military loss. The war led to severe repercussions for Kukis, including imprisonment of leaders (Kohima Jail) and displacement, but fostered a strong anti-colonial identity.
The Kuki INA (1940s)
The "Kuki INA" refers to the Kuki people's participation in the Indian National Army (INA) during WWII, fighting for India's independence against British rule. Led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the INA advanced into Northeast India, and many Kukis joined, seeking liberation from colonial rule. Alongside Meiteis and Nagas, Kukis showcased anti-colonial spirit. Their contribution is acknowledged by leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, but often overshadowed in mainstream history. Efforts highlight their sacrifices and forgotten heroism.
The Kuki Nation
The Kuki community encompasses tribals living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (Bangladesh), Mizoram, Nagaland, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Western Myanmar, including the Bawn, Chin, Hmar, and Mizo communities. The Kuki nation has existed since long before the British arrived in India. Ancient texts like the Mahabharata and Tripura Rajmala (Royal Chronicle) in the 6th-8th century document the Kuki presence in the Northeast region. In 1904, the British recognized the Kuki independent hill country as Kukiland. Our forefathers fought valiantly in defense of our homeland, notably in the Kuki Revolt (1860-1861) and the Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919). These conflicts underscore our commitment to sovereignty and self-determination. The Kuki nation possesses a well-documented history and territorial claim.
Conclusion
Dear Brothers and Sisters, from Chin, Bawm, Mizo/Zo, Hmar, Zomi, etc., behold, whether we accept it or not, our history, land, and culture tell us that Kuki is our nation and identity. History and land prove that Kuki is our nation and Kukiland is our land. God bless the Kuki nation.

KYA TUM BOMB MARTE HO:
Dear Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji, Hon'ble Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji, and Shri Yumnam Khemchand @YKhemchandSingh, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Manipur, and entire @BJP4India top politburo members,
If you're seriously looking for peace and stability in Manipur, please support the Hon'ble Supreme Court tomorrow in Nongthombam Biren Singh @NBirenSingh's audio leak tape Case No: W.P(C) NO. 702/2024 - KUKI ORGANIZATION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS TRUST VS UNION OF INDIA AND ANR, listed for 06-04-2026 in Court No. 12 as Item No.31, subject to order for the day - SUPREME COURT OF INDIA, rather than protecting and shielding Nongthombam Biren Singh @NBirenSingh from facing justice.
If New Delhi is serious about the law and order situation in Manipur and National Highway free movement, they must first stop interfering, delaying tactics, and shielding Nongthombam Biren Singh @NBirenSingh, and let him face the wrath of justice immediately.
The Hon'ble Supreme Court of India must be given the freedom to function and make decisions without interference from any political circle.
Nongthombam Biren Singh @NBirenSingh, who spearheaded the Kuki-Zo Community village bombardment through his anti-India establishments Arambai Tenggol, UNLF, PLA, KYKL, KCP, PREPAK.
The Kuki-Zo community will never live together under the same roof with the Meitei community until an amicable solution - Separate Administration in the form of Union Territory with Legislature - and justice is delivered. Imphal-Jiribam excursion trips will never bring permanent peace and stability to the region as long as the man responsible for the genocide against the Kuki-Zo community is protected.

Tensions Escalate in Ukhrul between Kuki and Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga) Myanmar Refugees
Songpi: April 6, 2026
Fresh incidents of firing have been reported from the eastern side of Ukhrul district, between Kuki and Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga) Myanmar refugees, with gunshots heard in Mongkot Chepu, Thawai, Tingpibung, and Sharkaphung areas. The firing started around 6:20 pm on Sunday and continued intermittently, with intense gunfire resuming at 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.
The situation remains tense in the Litan area of Ukhrul district, despite the presence of security forces, including the Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF). Villagers of Thawai (Thoyee) Kacha-Naga have opposed the entry of security forces into their jurisdiction, citing "unjust" treatment and concerns over the handling of the situation.
Firing was reported from both sides, starting from 5:00 am on Monday and continuing till the time of filing the report. The security forces have been deployed in Thawai village, but there were no reports of them entering Shangkai village, from where multiple rounds of firing have been reported.
The Myanmar illegal immigrant Tangkhul (Kacha-Naga) Thawai Village Authority has declared that no external forces would be permitted until the situation is suitably resolved. The authority has raised concerns over the handling of the situation and cited "unjust" treatment.
The entire stretch of National Highway-202 between Shangkai and Mongkot Chephu Kuki villages, spanning around 10 kilometres, remains completely shut, with authorities unable to ensure its full reopening.
The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates are awaited. The ongoing conflict has raised concerns about the safety and security of civilians in the area.

Perhaps @WIONews might like to take a moment to look at what’s unfolding in our own backyard as well. While the concern over deforestation in Indonesia and its impact on climate change is certainly valid, it’s a bit disheartening to see the situation in Manipur, India, receiving little to no serious attention; either nationally or internationally.
The scale of deforestation during this short period of crisis is clearly visible in recent satellite images. If climate change is truly a global concern, then what’s happening in Manipur deserves equal urgency and visibility. After all, environmental damage here is no less significant in its global impact.

UKNA Condemns Security Operations, Demands Constitutional Dialogue for Kuki Union Territory Aspiration
Songpi: April 1, 2026
The United Kuki National Army (UKNA) has issued a press release condemning the ongoing combat operations by central security forces against its cadres and areas of influence, stating that these actions ignore ground realities and misrepresent the organisation’s nature, intent, and constitutional stance.
The UKNA clarifies that its foundational objective is not secessionist but is firmly rooted in India’s constitutional framework. It seeks the political aspiration of the Kuki people for a Union Territory within India’s sovereignty, a demand that falls within the constitutional ambit.
Under Article 3 of the Indian Constitution, Parliament has the power to form new states and Union Territories, thereby recognising the legitimacy of such political aspirations in a democratic setting. The UKNA also invokes Article 19(1)(a), which protects freedom of speech and expression for advocating these aspirations.
The UKNA argues that the continued criminalisation of its members amounts to criminalising a constitutionally permissible political demand, which undermines democratic values and the rule of law, especially since the organisation claims to work toward safeguarding buffer zones to prevent ethnic violence until a political settlement is reached.
The group distinguishes itself from organisations like NSCN‑IM and certain Manipur‑based insurgent groups, emphasising that its objectives and methods are constitutionally aligned with India’s sovereignty and integrity, seeking redress through legal mechanisms rather than extra‑constitutional means.
The UKNA urges the Government of India and concerned authorities to halt unwarranted operations against it and instead engage in a constitutional dialogue for a Kuki political solution, rejecting militarisation as the approach to resolve the issue.
The organisation calls for constitutional engagement, recognition of legitimate aspirations, and pursuit of a just and lasting political solution to address the Kuki demands, affirming its commitment to India’s democratic framework.

We are Kuki, But not Zo: Unpacking the History and Identity
Written by: Lunkhothang Kipgen,
General Secretary, Kuki History & Identity Protection Committee
The Kuki people have a rich and storied history that predates the British colonial era. The name 'Kuki' finds mention in ancient texts like the Mahabharata and Tripura Rajmala, dating back to the 6th and 7th centuries before the British arrival in India. The British colonial administration also recognized and recorded the tribals living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (Bangladesh), Northeast India, and parts of western Myanmar as Kuki in the 17th century.
In 1904, the British colonial authorities even drew a political map of the Kuki independent hill country, recognizing it as Kukiland. This historical context is crucial in understanding the Kuki identity and their distinct place in the region.
However, in the 1950s, a new nomenclature, 'Mizo', emerged in the Lushei Hills (now Mizoram), led by Laldenga. This marked a significant shift in the identity politics of the region. Today in our society, some misinterpret the term Zo as our nation, this is unacceptable, because, 'Zo' is a name derived from Mizo tribe in Mizoram, and does not encompass the Kukis of India, the Chins of Myanmar, or the Bawms of the Chittagong Hill Tracts in Bangladesh.
There is no historical record or government document that acknowledges the term 'Zo' as a pan-tribal identity. As a derivative of Mizo, 'Zo' should be confined to Mizoram state politics only. Moreover, 'Zo' has no historical or etymological connection to the Chinese term 'Zhou'.
The Kuki nation has existed since long before the British arrived in India. Our forefathers fought valiantly in defense of our homeland, notably in the Kuki War (1860-1861) and the Anglo-Kuki War (1917-1919). These conflicts underscore our commitment to sovereignty and self-determination.
The Kuki nation possesses a well-documented history and territorial claim. It is essential to recognize and respect this identity, distinct from the 'Zo' nomenclature that has emerged in recent times. The Kuki people have a proud history, and it is crucial to preserve and acknowledge their unique identity.
Let us stand united in preserving our heritage and asserting our rights. May the Kuki nation prosper and thrive, and may our identity continue to be a beacon of hope for generations to come!
