Resourceful professors let ChatGPT do their jobs

@young_full_prof

if the students are doing it, I will let ChatGPT do my job for me.

@thephdstory I also did not appreciate the fact that when I was a junior faculty serving as a thesis committee member, I was told that the candidate had accepted a position. Although not explicitly told, it made me feel like I had to play along and pass them.

@thephdstory If you fail your oral exam, it is your advisor's fault for letting you go through with it. Unless it was you who insisted on "graduating" by a certain date because you have plans, then we will let you go through the humiliation.

Grad students should not be allowed to go into their doctoral defense unless their advisor (and committee) plans to pass them. #AcademicTwitter

Here we are, a few days rom midterm and I still have 15% of students who have completely nothing since week 1. I’m not allowed to drop them and I’m required to take work late.

Sick. Missed one day of class. Spent the weekend in bed. Showed up M & T and taught. No voice to shout/teach over students who refuse to listen. Not allowed to cancel class. Dean: “here is a mic and speaker.” #highereducation is broken.

One of the schools I teach at has so "improved" their website with "fancy" things, that I can't find the information I need. There is no place that lists when breaks/holidays/etc are. But, I'm also sure they spent more on the website than they do on us contingent faculty.

@njoybetz @somethingPhD I graded organic chemistry tests for several profs while in grad school. One had his son (age 12) grade alongside us. That kid is now an adult and has been a professor since 2018.

@PurdueNorthwest Not only was Keon's comment insensitive, inappropriate, and racist, Pls direct your attention those university leaders on stage who laughed along. Their reaction should be a raised eyebrow and disgusted. This shows the lack of awareness of what's inappropriate by many on stage.

@anilak_99 As a psychology department, I am sure that they are well aware of the advantages that attractive people have in various aspects of professional lives. It is not surprising. They are applying their knowledge.

From a graduate psychology program recommendation portal: “Please describe any physical characteristics that you believe may be important to the applicant’s success” 👀Really people??

Academics who announce their accomplishments should disclose their privileges. Do you come from an academic family? Are you white? Are you a man? Are you straight? Are you cis-gender? Are you able-bodied? Are you a citizen of where you work? All of the above? #AcademicChatter

@peevedccprof After COVID, students are more shameless in having ridiculous requests... mine ask if they can skip labs to leave campus one day early for family reunion with he expectation that I will spend time afterwords to supervise the extra lab when they return.

@PhDVoice @PostdocVoice When all of my undergrad summer internships in the field were boring and unfullfilling. Lame bureaucracy and leadership. Then I looked at the freedom of my professors at R1, there is no comparison. Before any of you argue that academia is worse, that has not been my epxerience.
